Inside Voices

Though I still fully intend to make my friends and family take countless photos of me against their will, I decided to give all of them a break and start putting my camera on a self-timer every so often. Of course this means bad indoor lighting, my far too messy room (side note: there's a Moonrise Kingdom art print in that cylinder that my friend gave me for Christmas. Score.), and the fact that now the internet can see the comforter and wall color that I picked out when I was 13. Still, I have no shame.

I've been struggling with styling this dress, as I always do, so I decided to take a cue from Marlen and layer it over a button down. I never really thought I could make this work, but as usual, Marlen is a genius. I think the fact that I was with her when I bought this dress is what really makes it though.

Also, is it just me or does my smile look extra creepy in these pictures? I tend to do that.

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! Mine was great as everyone was in a wonderful mood all day. I'm also happy with the gifts my amazing family gave me (Seasons of Party Down, the West Wing, and Arrested Development? Modcloth shoes? A new wallet? Talk about lucky.) I'll show off some of my new stuff next week, but I'll be letting a couple of my favorite Flock Together girls blog here for the next couple days while I have family in town. I'm pretty excited about their posts.

Side note: I just saw Django Unchained today and it was crazy awesome. Tarantino never lets me down.

  1. I love how you layered the shirt underneath the pretty printed dress. Marlen is so good at layering but so are you! :) I like how you wore it with the boots and tights to make the dress good for winter. And you got modcloth shoes?! you lucky ducky ;)

  2. Adorable look! Glad to hear you had a great Christmas and got some new shoes! Who doesn't love a new pair of shoes?! My bf wants to go see Django Unchained, but the fact that its almost 3 hours long makes me a little wary. Its gotta be pretty darn good to keep me interested that long!

  8. hahaha you crack me up Elana, and your 13 year old room choices do not detract from this lovely lovely outfit! You always have a knack for layering creatively and I love that armyish vest. So don't fret about the self-timer pictures, I mean, there comes a time in every fashion blogger's life...ha. Sounds like you had a great Christmas!! Can't wait to see your fun gifts. Have a wonderful time soaking up all that family love!

  9. First of all, my room is the EXACT same color. I picked it out when I was 14. I'm now 22, and I'm still living with it. But I still sort of like it. It's my furniture that's all wrong.

Secondly, I know just how you feel. My friends and family are great about taking my pictures, but you can see the "Do I really have to/Nathy is slightly crazy" look on their faces when I ask them, haha.

I'm glad you had a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you a very happy 2013!

  11. The layering is perfect! I love how the print of your dress looks with the style of the jacket-they seem to fit perfectly. And the button down was the most wonderful addition. I always feel bad making my family members take my pics too...oh well they love us anyway, right? :)
