Why Not?

Ever since I received this dress from eShakti back when there was still snow on the ground, I've been waiting for this moment. All I've wanted is to wear this dress without layers on a warm summer day as it deserved, which I did, multiple times. Yet, somehow I forgot to take pictures for the blog. Wearing my other eShakti dress recently reminded me that it had been a while since I've worn this dress on here as well. Not only that, but I had never been able to wear it in all its glory. I didn't really have anywhere special to wear it to, but why not?

There's something about yellow dresses that just make me feel happy. If I'm being completely honest, sometimes I get embarrassed to tell people that I'm a fashion major, especially at school. I've known what I wanted to do since I was 13 or 14, and I have no regrets about my major, but that little glint of judgement some people have in their eyes when tell them always gets to me. I understand why it seems like a shallow or vain industry to some people. I get why people assume that I'm just going to be picking out clothes (which is why I usually follow up my answer with an explanation of my journalism minor). And it makes sense to me that some people just don't "get" fashion. But the moment I put on a dress like this, I don't question it anymore. The idea that just putting on a piece of clothing will instantly make me happy makes it worth it. There's something wonderful about knowing that even if I'm having a bad day, I can put on a feminine dress and it'll give me the motivation to be positive or productive. Knowing that fashion has the power to change people moods, give them confidence, and give them an outlet of self-expression that they might not get other places is what makes me want to pursue it. It's cheesy, sure, but it's true. I'll take my happiness in dress form, please.

I can't say that anything particularly exciting is going on the moment; I'm just enjoying the last few weeks of summer. Of course, while this would mean the beach or general outside activities for most people, it really just means that I have more free time for Netflix. I finished Battlestar Galactica, which I absolutely loved, despite the very strange plot lines in the last season. I also binge-watched Orange is the New Black, which I loved. Netflix is killing it with the original series.

  1. This dress is soooo perfect for you, love the bright colours, the yellow is so summery. Such a fun pattern too
I hear ya, telling people I have a fashion blog is always awkward, they assume it's very vain and silly but fashion can definitely have more depth than that!

  3. I really loved this post- your thoughts and feelings on fashion shine through. And you can tell how much you love this (GORGEOUS) dress because of that 100-watt smile on your face. You are darling.

  5. I think it's cool that you're majoring in fashion! And the journalism will give you a little bit of an edge since you can even go towards the fashion magazine route! Fashion is an art form, and while it is very competitive and not as "stable" as other professions, it's still respectable and nothing to be ashamed of. I agree with you on that. I love how a simple article of clothing can change how someone feels. How the perfect outfit makes you feel like a million bucks!

  8. :) You're so beautiful. And I totally agree, clothes have great power. And we have the power to decide what clothes to wear, so therefore we have the power to determine how we feel. That's pretty cool!

  9. That dress is gorgeous and you look amazing in it! I've kinda been there with the weird looks for being a fashion major. I went to school for fashion design and definitely got some of those looks sometimes. I've since abandoned that career path, but I'm really glad I went through the process. It taught me a lot!

  10. You look lovely in that sunny dress!
I think it's admirable that you're going for the fashion major, lady, and even more admirable that you have no shame of it.

  11. Not sure if my last comment got deleted or not, but take two!

You look absolutely beautiful in this dress and you can tell you feel beautiful too by the look on your face. Yellow really does have magical powers. ;)

And you go girl! Be proud of that fashion education and don't ever underestimate what you're learning.

  12. I love the dress, especially the top with the bodice-type fit (is that what you would call it, fashion major? : ) ) I feel the same way about fashion. I've noticed if I'm in a bad mood in the morning, all I need to do is put on a cute outfit & things instantly change.

And good for you for doing what you love.

  13. Elana, this dress looks so lovely on you. Perfect shape, and the print makes me smile, too! The little pink sash is too cute with it. :) I understand what you mean about telling people what your major is... I've gotten the same look when I told people my major in college, or when I tell people that I'm an actor now. It always seems like such a superficial, self-fulfilling profession to some people, or maybe I'm just afraid that's what people will think. And omg omg omg Orange is the New Black was AMAZING. I am so glad it already got renewed for a second season.

I have been Netflixing my summer away as of late too...Gossip Girl all the way! I can't believe it's taken me this long to watch that show. I remember Battlestar Galactica...I'll have to check it out!

  17. This dress looks so good on you and perfect for summer. It's also so weird to see so much of you not covered by layers. Creepy comment, I know. But you know what I mean! And Orange is the new Black, YES. I've got two episodes left. I have lots of mixed emotions about Piper, but the show itself is pretty great. Did you know it's based on a memoir? I think I want to read it!

I feel a bit weird telling people about my major (poll-sci!) too...I always get weird looks, even from my own family members, and it makes me feel like I'm being judged for it. But I'm happy with it, and it's where I fit, so I don't mind the weird looks and odd comments so much as I used to. Also, I think it's really cool that you're a fashion major!(:
