Twins

If there's one thing I don't find very often in Illinois, it's people who dress like me. Sure, I have a few fashion major friends who are on my level when it comes to Peter Pan collars and pleated dresses, but for the most part, it's sweats and North Face for the majority of the campus. So when my friend Brittney-Jade told me that she bought this skirt, I knew a post was in order. My tweeness next to BJ's edginess? I couldn't resist.

I only just met Brittney-Jade this past semester when she proved to be saint-like and filled in as our entertainment editor of the paper last minute, but she's the one of these people who I feel like I met forever ago. One of my coworkers once described her as "a quote machine" and I'd say that's pretty accurate. Brittney-Jade is by far one of the funniest people I've met in college, not to mention her knowledge of pop culture is encyclopedia-like. One of the best parts about featuring her on Room 334, though, is that she's a blogger herself. If any of you fashion lovers are even just a little interested in the horror genre, you absolutely must check out her blog, Day of the Woman. In her words, she tackles "the feminine side of fear," and even someone like me who has never been much of a horror fan, can admit that it's fascinating.

I love that we took such vastly different takes on the same piece. I, of course, stuck to my uniform collar, lace, and t-strap flats, which BJ outfit has that effortless cool flair that I can never seem to achieve. Those sunglasses are where it's really at (that doesn't even mean anything, but you guys get what I'm saying). I do think it's funny that we both wore blue bracelets. Great minds, eh?

I'll leave everyone with this:

  1. You always look like you stepped off the pages of a storybook Elana! That's such a pretty skirt on both of you - and looks completely different in the unique way you each have styled it. Hehe, I remember feeling the same way at collage - most everyone wore fleeces and khakis, while I wore dresses and knee highs :-)

  3. Haha! I love that you called your style twee, for some reason. This is really neat how it is the same piece but very different styles. Fun to see that side by side there.

  4. Love it! So fun to see the same piece styled two different ways. and I love your shoes!!

It's funny; I think we had such different college style experiences. I went to Vassar College, and some people there dressed so...unconventionally...that while I didn't totally blend in, I'd often feel like I was on the low-key end :). But then I'd come home to my tiny town and people would say I was a hipster...ha. It's funny how location can change people's interpretations.

Anyway, just was musing over that :)

  10. Cuties.
I definitely don't know anyone irl that dresses like me... the closest I get is the fine arts kids (but they're way cooler and a lot less girly) haha.
