Free Bird

I've been trying not to buy anything; I really have. That said, I, like most women I would assume, have always lusted after Free People pieces. Of course, as a struggling 20-something, I've never actually been able to afford anything from the brand. So when I stumbled across this mint crop top at Nordstrom Rack recently with a $20 price tag and a Free People label, how could I resist? It's a beautiful piece, and as I mentioned previously, I've been trying to build up the shirt part of my wardrobe after realizing that it was lacking. I could just wear dress and/or skirts and bras forever, but I don't think I'm ready for that kind of attention. I need to at least secure a full-time job and be taken seriously professionally before I go down that route. So until my topless journey begins, I'm spending the few dollars I'm allowing myself to use on tops.  I'm not quite sure how the joke reached this point, but I'm just going with it.

Nothing too exciting is going on over here other than working on internship stuff from home, a meeting with my boss in Venice, babysitting my adorable nephew, and hanging out with my friends Adam and Jon. This is actually what I wore when I ended up spending time with them the other night, which really just consisted of long conversations and followed by us challenging each other in Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones trivia in Quiz Up on our phones for far too long. I don't mean to brag, but my group of friends has a bit of reputation for being wild and crazy. You know how it is.

As for my daily pop culture recap to hold you over until my next pop culture post, I've been all about Comedy Central shows at the moment ("Nathan for You" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and obviously "@Midnight" is fantastic), catching up on a couple of graphic novel series that I'm behind on (I will finally be up to date on "Fables" after months and months), and listening to a ton of podcasts. Kumail Nanjiani's "The X-Files Files" is pretty much my jam right now, and I'm also really into "Harmontown."

Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. Why do you ask?

  1. This crop top is so adorable! Paired with that skirt it can totally pass as a dress (: I've been on the hunt for some separates as well! I buy so many dresses, so it's nice to have the change (:

  2. oh, you should wear that color endlessly. It looks SO good on you, and that shirt is BEAUTIFUL! I love how happy your pictures always are, by the way! It's just a joy to read your blog because you're so adorable and bubbly!
Haha, oh, the wild group of friends... I think the wildest thing my group of friends ever did was have balled up paper fights on movie nights. Yep. We were crazy.

  3. Oh, that is a beautiful top. One day I will own something from Free People. One day.

I had to read the topless joke part of that first paragraph twice. Once I got to the last sentence, I was like, "Wait...what?" It made me laugh so hard the second time.

  4. I've been trying to up my shirt game lately too! I have far too many bottoms and dresses and not enough tops! I love this shirt you picked up. I know what you mean about not trying to buy things and then coming across a deal. The problem is there's so many deals!! But anyway, you look super cute!

  6. I LOVE that top! It's gorgeous. And you just have to buy it at $20! It's a sin not to. The color works magic with your hair too.
Sounds like a pretty fun and relaxing evening.

  8. What a good find! Most of the Free People I've owned in my life has been via a Nordstrom outlet. Your topless journey reminded me of the Seinfeld episode with the lady that wore the bra as a top... although I may just be aging myself with Seinfeld references :)
