2017 Recap

Where did this year go? The past few months have been so busy that I feel like I completely put the rest of the year out of my mind. Looking through old posts for this one, I had completely forgotten about some moments and some outfits. But alas, here we are. All in all, 2017 was pretty stellar for me personally even though the world continued to go to shit. I didn't keep up my blogging quite as much as I had hoped, but I actually wrote more than I had originally thought. More importantly, I think I finally learned to let go a little bit. While I'd love to be blogging twice a week as I once did, it's just not plausible for me right now. I'm happy to say that, while I'd love to keep to a schedule, I finally let myself feel okay about blogging sporadically whenever I get around to it. As I've mentioned, I still love my routine of shooting outfit photos every weekend, but it's nice to feel like it's not the end of the world if I only write actual blog posts once a month.

Other than finally not being so hard on myself, quite a few other great things happened this year for me too:

  • Participated in the Women's March
  • Hosted a feminist giveaway + fundraiser with Lisa and over 20 other small businesses
  • Went to Palm Springs for a conference
  • Got a raise and continued to grow at work and love what I do + learn a ton of new skills
  • On that note, helped my company grow and watch it gain more and more notable clients
  • Visited my friends and family in Illinois and Iowa
  • Went to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time
  • Got a Disneyland pass and had the best time going almost weekly
  • Attended the Magic trade show in Vegas
  • Got more politically educated. I still have a LONG way to go, but it's a start.
  • Celebrated two years with Jon (and coming up on three in February!)
  • Turned 25
  • Picked up a complete stranger from the airport. And by that, I mean met Jessica in person finally and had an amazing weekend exploring and drinking way too much coffee with her.
  • Visited the Museum of Ice Cream with Erica
  • And while we're on it, had a bunch of fun adventures with Erica in general
  • Met Angelyne and rode in her pink corvette, which was insane
  • Continued to work on our side passion projects at work, like launching Blank My Life (which Jon modeled for) + continuing to grow Blockthreads
  • Went to Dapper Day Expo in the spring
  • Supported a bunch of my favorite small businesses and grew my pin collection
  • Embraced color in my wardrobe
  • Celebrated five (!!) years of blogging
  • Explored more places and restaurants in Orange County than ever
  • Got even more into cooking
  • Saw Fleet Foxes in concert
  • Met some of my favorite Internet friends in person (like Hanh, Laura, and more!)
  • Learned to let go of toxic friendships/people who don't put in the effort, plus made countless memories with people I care about

Some of my top movies this year (as like last year, it's hard to put this together before seeing all of the Oscar movies): Baby Driver, The Big Sick, The Disaster Artist, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri, Get Out, Okja, and more

Some of my favorite TV shows this year: Game of Thrones, Brooklyn Nine Nine, The Good Place,  Stranger Things, Fargo, Master of None, Good News, Jane the Virgin, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Bojack Horseman, The Handmaiden's Tale, Better Call Saul, GLOW, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rick & Morty, Bob's Burgers, Catastrophe, Big Mouth, This Is Us, and more.

Favorite podcasts of the year: My Favorite Murder, Unqualified with Anna Faris, Reply All, My Dad Wrote a Porno, S-Town, Happy Sad Confused, The Nerdist, Homecoming, Dirty John

Given that I don't keep this up all that regularly, I can't begin to express my gratitude for the fact that anyone still reads this little old thing. I can't bring myself to give up blogging because of how many wonderful people it has brought into my life, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to keep meeting more of you. Thanks for helping make 2017 so great!

If you're still reading this, you deserve to be the first to know what might be my most exciting news of this year: I'm launching a line of pins and an Etsy store! This has been my biggest goal this year, and I'm over the moon to finally be launching it within the next week. Stay tuned!
