Meanwhile, at the antique store...

I mentioned last week that a few of my friends and I took a mini road trip to visit Jenn (whose name, let's face it, you should all know by now) and that we visited an antique store. What I didn't tell you, though, was that this photo shoot came out of it. I honestly hadn't expected to take outfit photos that day, and while I do love this outfit, I'm almost positive I've worn pretty much the exact same look or at least a slight variation of it on here before. However, when Mary decided that we had to take pictures inside the adorable store, how could I say no? Stumbling upon this table, complete with a bouquet of flowers and a teacup, was kismet — like the blog gods planned it.

I should mention that I've never actually read the book "Texas," but my friend Beth played prop master for the shoot and grabbed a random one in the store. I don't know why I don't have a prop master at all of my outfit shoots.

Speaking of reading, if you'd like to know what I've been up to (aside from pretending to have tea parties at antique stores) in my free time, I've been getting really into a couple of graphic novels lately. One of my best friends, Adam, and my advisor at the paper, Rich, are HUGE comic and graphic novel collectors, and I finally decided to take them up on one of their recommendations. I bought the first volume of "Y: The Last Man," which is about a plague that wipes out all men on earth except one (so basically a world full of women), with a gift card and instantly got hooked. I mentioned to Rich that I really loved it, but didn't want to spend the money on buying the rest at the moment. He doesn't own them, so instead, he brought me a bunch from a different series he has and thought I'd like, "Fables." It's essentially the dark/realistic sides to fairytale characters after they've been forced out of their homes, and it's fantastic. Think that show, "Once Upon a Time," but much darker and more graphic (it came out years before the show and isn't related). What I'm trying to get at here is that apparently I'm becoming a graphic novel person now, and that's pretty awesome if you ask me.

  6. Okay, so first off- this is a fantastic photoshoot. I love the detail shots that give a sense of place and the outfit is cute- not sure if I have or haven't seen it before, but am enjoying seeing it now.

Also- yay for graphic novels. I've heard good things about Fables. Might have to pick up a copy sometime... I would highly recommend reading the graphic novel Persepolis. It is actually a memoir of a girl growing up in Tehran during the Iranian Revolution (though a serious subject it is often quite funny). I think you can pick it up at a library (many libraries now have a lot of graphic novels) and Mous is you haven't read it, is very good too. Also a memoir as a graphic novel.

  7. I've read Y and loved it - I'd really recommend The Runaways, which is a collection of graphic novels I read as a teen, or AD: After the Deluge, which talks about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Both are fantastic!

  12. What a perfect little fall outfit! Love the color of your tights against the shade of your dress.
It's still in the high 80's here in Miami.. Miserably hot and muggy. Waiting for a cool "fall" day still. It's so frustrating!

  14. First- the cafe looks so dreamy, just like from the movies, and you look adorable! ^_^ I enjoy your photos so much, because you always look so happy it warms my heart <3
Second- I learned about the Fables from the Telltale video game "The Wolf Among us". It's one of the best games I've played so far, it is taken straight from the comics and if you like them, I strongly recommend you play the game. It's consisted of 5 episodes, only the first one got released so far. The gameplay is extremely simple, you won't have any hard time figuring it out. I'm going to try the comic books as well, because the story and characters really got me hooked!

  20. Yup, that IS pretty awesome that you're turning into a graphic novel person! Haha, I love it. I went through such a huge manga phase a couple years ago and wouldn't mind starting up again. Ah man, Japanese storylines...they get to me so bad.
Anyway, this was such an awesome impromptu photo shoot! LOVE the location and your boots :)

Also, yessss for graphic novels! Y and Fables are two I plan on checking out as well. I've heard great things about both, and I love my anime/manga/graphic novels/comics (yep, big nerd here. If I had all the money in the world I'd blow so much on books and cartoons ;)!

  24. I love the color of those tights with your hair! they compliment each other so well. The booties are not only adorable with the buckles but they are also the perfect height for the dress. Super cute outfit all together and your color choices are on point this season.
