If you follow me on Twitter, you know that only one thing mattered for me this past weekend: The Academy Awards. I know that award shows are lame, but I've just always had a strong love for the Oscars. I grew up watching it with my family, and I've grown to love texting my mom and best friend Whitney during the entire show while in Illinois. As a huge movie lover and obsessive reader of entertainment websites (in case you're wondering, Vulture is my favorite and I read it religiously), the biggest day of the year for film will forever have a place in my heart. I was pretty happy with this year's fairly laid-back ceremony and even though the awards were some of the most predictable ones in recent memory (not really a single shocker), I still couldn't complain about any of them. I had seen three of the Best Picture nominees already ("Her," "American Hustle," and "The Wolf of Wall Street") and I spent all of Saturday in bed watching three more ("Dallas Buyers Club," "Nebraska," and "Gravity"). Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to see "12 Years a Slave," but I'll get to it eventually. Also if you follow me on Twitter, you know that my favorite film of the year was "Her," which means that the highlight of the show for me was Spike Jonze winning Best Original Screenplay. That and John Travolta's misproununciation of Idina Menzel's name. So. Funny.
Oh, about the outfit. This was a super simple, "oh, crap, I'm being picked up in 10 minutes" outfit, but it got the job done. Burgundy cardigan + polka dots + A-line skirt is a no-fail combination in a pinch.
Cardigan: Thrifted
Top, skirt: Urban Outfitters
Boots: Endless
Necklace: Jewelmint
Ring: Thrifted
I also love to watch the Oscars. Here in Germany the show is starting in the middle of the night and is over at around 7am... so its difficult to watch it live (at least when you have something to do the day after the oscars ;)). Your outfit is super cute!
ReplyDeleteLots of love!
I watched the Oscars for the first time in years, I had actually watched almost all the movies so I was into it. Her was really great I agree. I wish there had been more surprises too though!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours in this look, they go together so perfectly. And the polka dot blouse is so cute

Cute outfit!! I watched the Oscars too! Ellen was so funny! The bit with the pizza was wonderful! John Trivolta completely butchered Idina Menzel's name!

Ah man, the Oscars, they kind of bore me, but I still like them :D Can't believe Leo din't won this time! :( He only has his fame and money now, darn.. :D
ReplyDeleteLove the color combo in here! The red cardi and blue dotted top make a striking match!
The nice thing about having a wardrobe that all goes together- even when doing a "being picked up i 10 minutes" outfit, it all goes together and looks great.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have cable so no show and Oscar nominated films rarely get shown around here. Luckily, a local group made a film club and paid to bring in the ones this year. Granted, only Philomena and the Dallas Buyers Club (both of which I was too sick to go to), have been shown so far, but 12 Years a Slave is being shown tomorrow! So excited to see it. Sounds like an amazing and moving film.
This was a last minute outfit? Nice! Its super cute Elana :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I wish we had TV...I heard about all the great moments from the Oscars, and I have to say, I liked Ellen as the host!
The Dragonfruit Diaries

I love the Oscars, too! My friend Michele and I have a tradition of making ribs, drinking champagne, and watching the red carpet all the way through the actual show. It's one of the best days of the year!
