Keeping it simple

Keeping it cool is more like it, right?

My favorite part about not working this summer? Waking up at my leisure, making coffee, and sifting through blogs for as long as I may please, all while listening to and rediscovering my love for Carla Bruni. It's a rough life.

I'm enjoying this while I can because things are about to get a little busier. I can't even contain my excitement over the fact that my brother and his girlfriend (neither of whom I've seen since January) are coming into town this evening and tomorrow is my friend's wedding. Leisurely mornings may be harder to come by for next week or so.

For as much I love skirts and dresses, I always find it a little difficult dressing for summer when I can't layer up with cardigans or tights. I tend to gravitate toward more simple items in flattering cuts so when paired on their own, it can get a bit boring at times. I think it might have to do with being so short that I often feel like loud prints or too many different items can be overwhelming on me. I think there's some merit in minimalism and keeping it simple. I'll take classy over over-the-top any day.

  1. Definitely a simple outfit, but those are always needed! White, navy blue and brown should be staples of everyones closet.

I love the belt and the bag.

  7. Ah Elana, I think we are twin souls. First of all, I LOVE Carla Bruni. Second, YES minimalism is great, but so is over the top classy. I'm always somewhere between those two extremes. Looking great, have fun with everyone this weekend!

  8. Your summer mornings sound PERFECT! At least I can look forward to doing those things on the weekend! (And let's be honest, I read more than my fair share of blogs at work too!) I love your top, you can get such great stuff at buffalo exchange, but the one by me can be SO snobby sometimes! I have to dress to the nines to go in and try to re-sell my clothes! Oh well, I guess they have to be picky to get a good selection.
Hope you have a great weekend with your brother and at your friends wedding!
