Tights weather and short skirts

We call this one "the double."

There are too many things that excite me about this post. The first is the obvious one: I'm wearing tights. It's since warmed up a bit, but when I checked the weather yesterday morning to see a high of 61 degrees and a low of 42 (or something along those lines), I went straight to my dresser to grab a pair of tights.

Then, there's every other fall element about this outfit. I'm wearing my favorite motorcycle boots that I got from Target last year. I got to break out my cropped sweater. I layered. Needless to say, I was just in a good mood in general all day.

I'm a little torn on this skirt, however. On one hand, I absolutely adore it. It's a Jack by BB Dakota piece that I got with tags for dirt cheap on Ebay. It's actually one of two really exciting skirts I scored on Ebay last week, but I'm going to keep the other one a surprise until I put up the photos. I'll give you a hint: it's by a beloved designer. Back to this skirt, though: as much as I love the colorful floral print, it's slightly too short on me. It's not that it's inappropriate, especially with the tights, it's just unflattering. I still haven't decided, but I may end up selling it or putting it the swap group. (Swap group, you say? All you have to do is add me on Facebook (Elana Katz) and I'll add you to it! We really need more people to make it work.)

Besides the outfit itself, I'm also excited about these photos. When my friend Jennifer, a co-worker of mine at the paper, and I were discussing my blog, she offered to help me with photos. In addition to being wonderful in general, Jennifer is also a fantastic photographer. I'm still not sure she knows what she's getting herself into- I'm probably going to harass her to take my pictures as often as possible until she pretends to break her camera to get rid of me. I'm very pleasant to be around. Also, Jennifer is working on creating a blog of her own. Once she does, I'll expect each and every one of you to follow her. One of my many demanding requirements of being a reader of my blog.

  1. This is a great look! I can't tell that the skirt is too short from the photos, it looks proportional. I can't say that I get excited about the fall like most people do--don't get me wrong, I love scarves and boots--but I know what is coming next and I don't like cold! The other day I wore a white and green dress and white shoes in an attempt to fight fall and I just looked like a peep or other spring candy. I like how the print of this skirt is fun and bright, but it is "fall" with the black tights and boots...perfect fall look that isn't all autumnal colors!

  3. How cute is this outfit! The boots are awesome, I can see why you love them. I can't believe they're from Target! And, I see what you mean about the skirt. I feel uncomfortable when mine are too short too, though I have short legs so it doesn't happen that often. I do think they look fine with tights though! :)

  4. So funny, I was reading this post while I just got your comment! great minds think alike! So, I really don't this skirt is unflattering at all, it looks adorable! I really love how in fall you can still wear pastels by pairing them with black tights and accents to make them more cool weather appropriate. I do love the fall colors and get excited about them, but lets be honest I also still love my pastels and florals too! So cool that you have another buddy to take pictures! It's usually just my boyfriend or me and my trusty tripod!
Hope you're having a lovely day!

  6. oh no!! I got so excited when I saw your pics for this post because this is probably my favorite outfit for you so far! (I may have said this before but it's true :)
I know how it feels when a skirt might hit the leg in a sot where it doesn't look right to you in the mirror, but that doesn't mean it looks that way to others ;) this whole outfit is adorable on you!

  7. I don't know why you're on the fence about this skirt, I think it's lovely! I'm still dying out here in LA, it was 98 degrees in the late afternoon. I can't wait to pair my skirts with tights!

  10. Glad to hear you got someone to help you with the photos. Even though it is fun to take photos yourself, it helps SO MUCH to have someone else. That was a generous friend, and you will have fun together.

Shocked that it is cool enough for tights, but they look cute. My favorite part of your outfit is that completely unique ring though.

  11. Things I love about this outfit:

    1) Tights. I am SO happy it's tights season, too! But I need to head over to Target soon to stock up on new pairs. I have this AWFUL habit of ripping tights after a wear or two. One time I even noticed that a pair of tights were ripped the moment after taking them out of the package. My life is ridiculous.

    2) Layering. Fall layers make me so. happy.

    3) Boots! I think fall boots make me even happier than fall layers, but it's a tough call.

  12. Haha, looking forward to checking out Jenn's blog! ;)
Don't you love having someone into photography? I seriously feel bad sometimes though because of how everytime I see Kirsten (my photographer buddy) I nag her to take outfit photos for me xD Us fashion bloggers are just demanding people, aren't we?
Anyway, ahhhh, the fall aspects of your outfit definitely are exciting! Hehe, tights and boots? Yup, it's cooling down :)
Super cute, I love the print of your skirt

  13. oh Elana, this is one of my favourite outfits of yours so far!! Firts of all, I think it is very "you" which is kinda the same as saying it is very "me" as we seem to have such a similar style! I truly adore it, it seems like something I'd be very comfortable wearing :) Secondly, it might just be because you're wearing tights. We still have very hot weather here so tights are definitely not a choice and I miss wearing tights so much these days... I can only imagine outfits with tights, it's killing me haha you look wonderful though, such a Fall-like outfit! :) I also LOVE your boots! I've been hunting for a pair of boots like these forever, I wish I could actually steal them, they would be so handy haha I also love your layering (maybe because I'm addicted to layering) and I think your skirt is really really cute (although I understand your concern, I hate skirts/dresses that are way too short for me). Oh and by the way, your hair looks great on these photos. I know this sounds ruper random but it really caught my attention so I thought I should write it down haha You look wonderful! :)

It's become such a valuable commodity for many of us that we base all of our daily activities around how much time we have to spare. I'm sure we've all had to cut something out of our daily routine just because there's not enough time. When you're a young adult like me, with a full time job and other responsibilities, it's honestly quite hard to find time to play video games, which is a pity because I love video games.
