Midi Me

Despite the fact that I'm still unemployed and it's killing me, being home is actually pretty nice. I hate not knowing what I'm doing next week and feeling like I don't have control over my life at the moment, but it does kind of feel like I'm just on summer break. Southern California is as beautiful as ever, I get to sleep in every morning, and I don't even have to think about upcoming tests or projects. It's been nice getting to spend time with friends and family, and they're all making post-grad life much more bearable. The most exciting thing that has happened, however, is that I got a car yesterday. I've been car-less for the past four years (other than when I've borrowed my dad's while at home), and I've felt awful having to rely on other people to get me places. Everyone I know have has been a saint and driven me where I needed to go with little complaint, but I like having the freedom to do it myself. I got a used Hyundai Accent that looks brand new for a steal, and I'm thrilled to have my own set of wheels again. Oh, hello, adulthood. That is in fact me you see coming. I'll be there shortly, I promise. I think. Probably. I don't know. We'll see.

Moving on, let's talk about this outfit. I picked up this midi skirt with a half-price tag on it at Goodwill for $2 a little while ago, but had been waiting for the perfect occasion to wear it. It felt out of place on campus in Illinois, but I finally busted it out the other day when I realized this polka dot crop top was made for it. I wore this to look at the car on Monday and then for a much needed night of hanging out with one of my very best friends, Adam. As huge Wes Anderson fans, he and I had both been pretty upset that we missed seeing "Grand Budapest Hotel," but somehow he found it still playing at theater not too far from us that night. I'm happy to report that it completely lived up to my expectations, although I can't imagine ever not enjoying a Wes Anderson film. I had gotten rejected from two jobs that day, so he bought me a beer and dessert after the movie, which is really the perfect cure to the unemployment woes. If I could spend every day watching Wes Anderson movies and eating ice cream, I would be perfectly happy.

Also: I did a massive update to my store, so please shop my closet! I have a huge pile of clothes sitting in my room, and I need your help to get rid of it. Most things are $15 or less, but I'm willing to negotiate on many of the pieces. Shop away!

I almost forgot to mention this lovely new bag. I decided that I wanted to spend a little bit of my graduation money on a faux-leather tote, since all my bags are either tiny or canvas  — none of which seemed right for interviews or big-girl jobs. I had been holding out for this Madewell tote for forever, but alas, I couldn't bring myself to spend that much. Luckily, I stumbled upon this one at Old Navy while I was in Arizona, and it was basically exactly what I was looking for, but with a much friendlier price tag. I might be taking this thing everywhere with me from now on.

Skirt: Thrifted
Top, sandals: UO (top from outlet)
Ring: Buffalo Exchange
Bag: Old Navy

  1. I'm totally into midi skirts these days, I think they are fabulous! Also I hope luck comes your way on the job front, I personally know how tough post grad life is since I've been out of school for 6 months. I loveeeeed The Grand Budapest Hotel and you're right how could one even dislike a Wes Anderson film!

  3. Girl, you are the thrifting queen! You stole that skirt in my view, haha. And welcome to the post university life, lady :) It can be a bit tough - it took over a year for me to find a good job after graduation. But I did find myself with SO much extra time and it's nice to live deadline-free :)

  6. I'm terrified for post-grad life, but having time without deadlines and endless assignments sounds like a dreaam. I hope your job hunt goes better in the coming weeks and you find the right job for you.

  7. I'm getting my AA then transferring to University, and I'm terrified of finishing my AA, because then I really have to know what I want to do, and I honestly have no clue. I've also been in the same boat as you with the car thing. People have to chauffeur me around everywhere, and it's getting to the point where it just isn't acceptable anymore, so I am looking for a car of my own.
Your outfit is so adorable! I cannot believe you scored that skirt for only $2! Such a score!

  8. There's those polka dots again! Lol.... love it! It's sooo scary when you first graduate and are scrabling to try to find work. I don't know if they really prepare anyone for that! It will all work out in the end... I totally remember that feeling though... heck, I still feel that way sometimes and I'm 33! Ha!

  10. The idea of graduating and looking for a job sounds terrifying, but at least you get to do it in SOCAL. Forever jealous! And this outfit is great. I love the way blue works with grey. Also my first car was an accent. It was grey and I loved her until her dying day.

Good luck on your job hunt! Someone will scoop you up soon!

  13. How adorable is this?? I'm loving this combo so much :)

So exciting about getting a car! I've only been driving since last April so I know how much of a difference it makes not having to rely on others for rides constantly. I am sorry to hear about the lack of a job if you want one right away. What about taking a month off to enjoy your freedom? You have the rest of your life to work. Might as well enjoy the freedom while you can, right? :)
