Let's Chat with Tiny Mountains + A Giveaway

It's been a while since I've introduced you to another Etsy store through my "Let's Chat" feature, but I'm more than pleased to bring you a new one today. Meet Tatiana of Tiny Mountains. I was immediately drawn to the gem and stone jewelry that Tatiana makes since she has a knack for using rich materials to create easy to wear designs. They're pieces that not only go with everything, but are also great conversation starters. Tatiana was kind enough to send me this ring (which you can also see in Monday's post) and pin, and she's also being kind enough to treat one of you lucky readers to a beautiful pair of earrings and a bobby pin. Enter to win after the jump, but first, get to know Tatiana and Tiny Mountains a bit better.

How and when did Tiny Mountains start?
Tiny Mountains didn't exactly start, it kind of slowly (painfully slowly!) emerged from my need to design, to be my own boss, and to wear something different. And it's still emerging -- I do not see it as a completed project, there is always room for improvement, a need for a change, be it branding, packaging, design, etc. I'm never content, and I always doubt what I do.
But initially, of course, I wanted to make my own jewelry. Does it ever start any differently? I didn't like what I was offered at the shops, and I wanted to make what I liked. And I like my jewelry wild and spiky. So that's what I did.

What are some of your favorite materials to work with?
Minerals and rocks are my favorites. I like them plain, I like them shiny, I like them clear and I like them opaque. I am not a gemmologist, nor am I a believer in healing properties of crystals, so basically I'm just a person who likes shiny things. Hm, is it too bad?

How would you describe the Tiny Mountains customer?
I like to think that Tiny Mountains customer is a modern and confident woman with a minimal and precise wardrobe. She always knows what's trendy, but she wears what she pleases. Although I think that's just who I want and try to be.

In truth, my customers are both men and women, they live in different parts of the world (I really need to get a map and pin all the places I've sent my jewelry to), some of them would buy smaller and elegant pieces, others would like to make a statement through my jewelry. But they've all got one thing in common -- they are prepared to wait for my jewelry to travel, sometimes for quite a long time, to have something unique. They value being different, they know that making special gift is important. And this is why I'm thankful to them and for them.

What are some of your favorite pieces currently in your shop?
I always love my newest stuff the best, and right now my favorite things aren't even listed at the shop yet, they are all waiting their turn. But if I had to choose then Amethyst circle necklace and Peach quartz necklace are my favorites.

Dress: H&M
Boots: Reflections
Ring, pin: c/o Tiny Mountains

What's your favorite part about running your store?
As I am a one-woman show behind my store. I run every aspect of it - designing and making new pieces, photographing, editing photographs, listing and managing my jewelry at the shop, packaging, shipping, etc. And product photography is probably the best part of that process. I love photography, and product photography in particular. The context in which you photograph your product can change the way people look at it. My photographs are mostly rustic, natural, I never use artificial light - this way I try to communicate wildness, freedom and, yes, mountains.

And when I get a chance to photograph my pieces on a model and pretend to be a fashion photographer I'm a truly happy person.

Are there any exciting plans for Tiny Mountains that we can look forward to?
Right now I'm finishing my work on the spring line. It's a tiny collection of new designs but I'm happy and proud of it. Hopefully it'll be released soon. Did I say hopefully? I meant definitely.
As promised, Tatiana is graciously giving away a pair of her gorgeous earrings and a beautiful bobby pin. The giveaway is open to U.S. residents only and ends on 3/17 at midnight and can be entered through the Rafflecopter widget below. Good luck!

  9. Wonderful interview, this Tiny Mountain shop is adorable, I love their rings the most, just spectacular! So annoying that I live in Europe! Could have loved to win me some precious gems! ^_^
Btw, just started watching Parks and Recreation and booooooy this show is AMAZEBALLS! I am loving every second of it, and it's weird, cause I rarely like a tv show that much. I usually get bored of a series after a few episodes, but not with Parks & Rec!

  14. Saw the first photo and was getting all fangirl-y over how lovely you always look in green (by the way, your legs seem to go for miles in this dress!) and then I find out it is an interview.

These jewelry designs are so lovely (I am a sucker for ALL of the rings. Seriously could not narrow it. What's more all my students would ooh and aah over the rings too. They like things like that, so- bonus!), but what made me excited was you always do such good interviews. It sounds trivial because, of course, most of the focus should be on the interviewed person, but you ask just the right questions. With your new job I'm sure you are busy-busy-busy, but if you don't already, you should seriously consider taking on becoming a contributing writer for some other blogs or online sites. You have a talent!
