Tread Lightly

I couldn't tell you the last time I wore earrings if I tried. I got my ears pierced as a baby, and I was obsessed with collecting earrings as a pre-teen. Now? Not so much. I always find myself with rings or necklaces galore, so the idea of earrings always seems like too much. Then I discovered Nerdy But Still Girly, a little shop with the best earrings I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to receive a credit to the shop, but choosing a pair was quite possibly one of the most difficult things I've had to do. After debating between a pair of Jon Snow earrings and a pair of baby Groot ones for far too long, I finally decided that there was no contest. When Heisenberg is an option, you always choose Breaking Bad. Like there was ever another choice.

I wore the earrings with an outfit I wore over the weekend for strolling around my local downtown area and babysitting. This J. Crew Factory collared top is by far one of my most worn items, and it's easy to see why. It goes with practically everything. I hadn't thought to layer it under a dress until now, and I'm loving how it looks. Then again, I love how it looks with everything.

Since I few of you had asked for it, I suppose a Breaking Bad themed post is as good of a time as any to explain the boyfriend in more detail. Fair warning, it's disgusting. Bear with me.

I've mentioned one of my best friends Jon on here dozens of times (like our weekly binge watching marathons), but I've left out a lot. I never mentioned that a year and a half into becoming friends in high school, we dated and that he was my first boyfriend and first kiss. I also never mentioned that we broke up a couple months of later when he, a year older than me, moved away for college and we decided it was best to preserve our friendship than date long distance. I certainly never mentioned how we both moved on and stayed friends over the next five years, but continued to flirt with each other every so often, even though one of us was usually in a relationship. Or that we tried dating again last summer right when I moved back, but that the timing of it threw everything off. I left out the parts about how our weekly TV marathons usually consisted of us talking for hours and forgetting to watch whatever show we planned on watching. And of course, I never mentioned that I finally figured out that I wanted to be with him right before he decided to move to Washington. Luckily for me, he figured it out before I did and had the guts to bring it up two days before he left. And so, even though we claimed we would one day get the timing right, we accidentally started dating at the worst possible time. So that's what I've really been up to the past two months - starting a relationship long distance with my best friend. Somehow, though, he thought I was worth it, and he moved back about two and a half weeks ago. So now, almost six years after we dated for the first time, we finally just decided to say "fuck timing." It took me a long time, but I've finally come to terms with the fact that risking our friendship was worth it if it means that I get to be with a really sweet guy who quotes Louie and Game of Thrones with me, supports my office supply addiction, and is one of the funniest people I've ever known.

See? Gross.

  2. I'm so glad you shared that story on your blog, as I feel like we rarely get to see that personal side of you. And what a story! I'm so happy for you- and it sounds like you're really friends before anything else, which has to be the basis for an amazing relationship. Yay, yay, yay!

The Peter Pan collar top looks great every time you wear it, and how cute under a dress like that! Now I'm wishing I had one just like it. Love the earrings too. You'll hate me for saying this- but I've almost, finally finished BrBa after dragging it out as long as possible. The last season is just SO sad and intense, and I've been wanting to watch Parks & Rec more (and, can you blame me??)

    ♥ perfectly Priya

  3. Okay, I have to admit, I find this story sort of sweet (I mean, real life isn't really sweet or not sweet. It is what it is- just life- but as a story, I love this), and as Priya said, it is interesting to see a more personal side of you.

Also- those earrings were made for you!

  4. Okay, first of all those earrings are THE BEST. I need to go check out their shop like now.

Second, SQUEAL. I saw your IG picture and it was totally adorable! Loving the story now too; and isn't always how it works? Timing is never perfect somehow. I met my boyfriend about three months before moving away for a year; so we've being done that long distance thing. So, exactly. Fuck the timing. So happy for you - he sounds like a great guy!

  5. Ahhhh, the earrings are cute, your outfit is cute, and your story is super cute! I'm glad you shared it. :) I'm happy you guys took the plunge. The older I get, the more I realize how important people are who just fit perfectly with you, y'know? Times get busy and stressful and it's best to only make room for the best people. Good luck to you both! <3

  8. Omg thanks for sharing your relationship story. Timing is definitely everything, especially in situations like that. When you said he moved back I was like, awwww! Haha.

Digging the earrings too. I never wear earrings, either. Now I don't really have a choice because one of the holes is partially closed and I can never get an earring through if I try. It's a rough life I live. ;)

  11. I was married for 16 years to a loving mother and wife. We had 2 children together who are now 11 & 13. I reconnected with an old girlfriend from college on Facebook and we began an affair and I left my wife. The woman I had an affair with is a wonderful woman and I love her too and our kids had begun accepting the situation and my wife has kind of moved on, but not in love with the man she is seeing. I thought I fell out of love with my wife and I felt terrible about what I did to her - she is a good woman and I don't know what came over me. I decided to try and get her back and I was recommended to Lord Zakuza for help to get reunited with my wife and within 48 hours after I made contact with Lord Zakuza my wife decided to work things out with me and now we are back together with our children living as one happy family. I really don't know the words to use in appreciation of what Lord Zakuza did for me but I will say thank you sir for reuniting I and my family back.
