(A Very Belated) 2018 in Review

Would it be very cliche and naive of me to say, on January 2nd, that I want to make it a goal to blog more? Probably, but here I am. I have no idea if I actually will, but I do miss the writing aspect of blogging regularly.

The past year or two, I've gotten so consumed with work that I haven't had the energy to keep this thing up. I have a blast still taking photos on the weekends for Instagram, but I have too many unfinished posts to count. For the sake of hoping I finish writing this (and to stop boring anyone who is bored of me saying this whole spiel again), I'll keep this short.

I kept thinking that this year felt uneventful - not bad by any means, but just one of those years where nothing really big happened that went by in a blur. However, after thinking about it more, I'm remembering a lot of cool stuff that happened this year. So why ruin tradition? Here's my year in review, plus some of my favorite outfits.

Good things that happened:

  • Celebrated 3 years with Jon (since our anniversary was at the beginning of the year, we're almost at 4 now!)
  • Turned 26
  • Got a raise
  • Got a new car
  • Voted
  • Was a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding and had a blast in San Diego seeing him marry one of my good friends/my now sister-in-law
  • Was a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding and had a blast seeing two of my favorite people marry each other/visiting with old college pals in Iowa
  • Extended that Iowa trip to visit my brother's family in Illinois and got to show Jon where I went to college and lived for four years
  • Saw My Favorite Murder live
  • Went to two Dapper Days
  • Went to Disneyland A LOT. I had a ton of fun with my Disney partner in crime, Casey, and I also got to meet a ton of Internet friends in person from the Disney community.
  • Met the baby of two of my closest friends on New Year's Day, who just turned one!
  • Reconnected with one of my best friends and had lots of fun adventures and coffee
  • Also had fun adventures with Erica and Hanh, like exploring LA, Laguna Beach, and Pasadena
  • Went to Vegas with my entire family after Christmas
  • Saw Eddie Izzard live
  • Went to the That's From Disneyland exhibit and saw Hanging with Paul Scheer Live there with Rachel Bloom, Ben Schwartz, and Jeff Garlin
  • Launched a pin shop...that I didn't really keep up. I have a lot of thoughts on this (and starting side projects in general) that I'll have to save for another time, but I'm a lot less hard on myself than I originally was about this. It's hard wanting to be creative and do EVERYTHING, but the fact of the matter is, it's okay to work a full-time job (that I love, I might add) and not excel at doing a million cool things outside of it. It's okay to want to go home and binge re-watch Buffy instead of creating something. If you're interested, the shop is actually still live and getting orders! We're not doing any marketing or coming up with new designs for the time being, but the three we do have actually don't do too badly.
  • Did my first paid collaboration with a brand
  • Worked with a lot of amazing brands in general like Lindy Bop, Karina Dresses, The Five 15, Dolly & Dotty, and more
  • Even though I don't keep it up as much, still celebrated 6 years of blogging and did a fun giveaway with some of my favorite small businesses
  • Started sharing all of my bloopers on Insta stories. Honestly, this has been so much fun and it's the thing I get the most messages about. I highly encourage you all to share all of your ugly photos as much as possible.

Favorite TV shows of the year: The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Queer Eye, Bojack Horseman, Jane the Virgin, Westworld, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Adventure Time (RIP), Silicon Valley, Bob's Burgers, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Altered Carbon, Great British Baking Show, GLOW, Big Mouth, and probably a ton of others I'm missing.

Favorite movies of the year (I saw a lot at the beginning of the year, and then Movie Pass started sucking and I barely saw any the latter half of the year): Sorry to Bother You, Isle of Dogs, BlackKklansman, Eigth Grade, Black Panther, Hearts Beat Loud

Favorite Podcasts: My Favorite Murder, Reply All, How I Built This, Armchair Expert, My Dad Wrote a Porno, Slow Burn, Uncovered, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Unqualified, Getting Curious, Happy Sad Confused, Homecoming, Sandra, Serial, and a bunch of others I'm probably forgetting.

If you're still reading this, thanks for following along! Even though this blog is barely hanging on by a thread, I still feel like I'm making more internet friends than ever, and I couldn't be more thankful.

  1. Forever inspired by your bright outfits and I had the exact same thought...this year just felt like a blur of nothing. Let's hope 2019 is a little more memorable.

  2. I love your review and was happy to see so many good things in your life. We can often glaze over them, thinking either of the bad things or just that if its "nothing big" it can mean unimportant but you had big and good things. Yay! As always, loving your outfits. Here's to more posts (and more paid collaborations because you do great post and should be paid for those!)

  4. Yay I'm so glad you're going to keep blogging! I feel like the blog community has really slowed down in the last few years which makes me sad because blogging is one of my FAVORITE things to do. One of my goals is also to be more consistent with posting, so here's to us blogging more in 2019! Also, you looked cute AF this year, but then you always do!
