Leaves and Fall and Things

There's really not much new here. Between this dress, my trusted white loafers, and my denim jacket (which I'll admit is probably much more common in my every day dress than I let on just in outfit photos), this outfit is full of pieces that have appeared here time and time again. Yet, with leaves on the ground and the seasons changing, the outfit suddenly feels new. Though it's not as cool as I'd like it be, it's finally fall and I have no shame in being one of those bloggers who constantly goes on and on about how great that is. I love fall, and I don't care who knows it. Stop me if I'd said this before (let's face it, I probably have), but I never got to experience the season in all its glory until I moved to the Midwest. The weather doesn't change too drastically back home in California, and it definitely doesn't have that same feeling that exists out here. I almost feel like a fraud for all of those "falls" I spent bundled up in sweaters and drinking warm coffee drinks. I still have no idea where I'm going to end up come May when I graduate, but I'll definitely miss the small-town Midwest fall I've come to love.

Things have still been busy, but it's probably my fault for think I could have sleep, school, work, AND a social life. It's really been hitting me lately that this is my last year here, so I've been trying to spend more time with my friends. But I guess when complaining about the new season of How I Met Your Mother and following it up with episodes of Firefly is involved, I can't really say no to that. The moment someone asks me to sit in a coffee shop (again, I mean. I might have just done this last week.) for hours, all bets of being productive are off.

Messy

I'm a little bit of a mess right now when it comes to, well, everything. Thank you all so much for the comments yesterday about my knee, which is why I hate to tell you all that I fell on it AGAIN. Only this time it was because I tripped over my bag. Like I said, I'm a mess. A very graceful mess.

Chit Chat

It's strange that writing on here has started to feel like talking with friends. Whenever something happens in my life, I feel the need to share it with my readers like we're catching up over coffee. I encourage you all to grab a cup as I ramble about my life. Here's what's been happening:

Being busy and that time I wore shorts

Disregarding my "pulled back tightly to bear the wind" hair and squinting-more-than-normal eyes, let's talk about the obvious: for the first time on this blog, and the first time in who knows how long, I am wearing shorts in these photos. I fought it, I really did. I actually was wearing a dress when the day started, but walking back and forth to my dorm in heavy winds was not working out. After much frustration with holding onto my dress in hopes of not flashing the entire campus, I finally gave up and changed into these shorts before my club meeting. I usually hate how I look in shorts and was expecting to trash these photos when I saw them, but I'm surprisingly happy with the results. I'm convinced it's the top. It possesses the power to make any outfit look good. Obviously, tights weather didn't stick around for too long, but it hasn't been too bad so I can't complain.

I can't believe how behind I've been on everything (posting, commenting on blogs, fashion week, etc.), I've been so busy. It was so nice to actually have some time to call my parents today, I've even been neglecting them. I love being busy, but I'm looking forward to some down time this weekend. I'm also hoping to write some more as I've been feeling a bit uninspired when it comes to contributing to my section. I did write a column for our Opinions section for their "why my major matters" series on Fashion Merchandising and it's been nice to see the reaction from some of my peers in my major. I essentially ranted (as I always do) about how too many people label fashion majors as dumb or superficial, which is, of course, not the case. For the most part.

I also did a how-to speech in my public speaking class on how to start a blog! I mostly chose that because I realize that my hobbies and skills include writing and watching movies/tv shows and it was the one thing I could think of to teach people about. I've also gotten in the habit of trying to convince everyone in my major who dresses well to start a blog. It's strangely become my mission. I succeeded in getting my good friend Justine (who helps me with a lot of my photos) to start one, and I'll share it with you all once I get her permission. Then, as I've said before, it's your job to follow her, whether you like her or not. But let's be honest, you'll like her. She's friends with me so it would be impossible for you not to, right?

As usual, I have to mention the blogger's clothing swap group (you know, the one I've yet to contribute to myself) once again until someone tells me to shut up. It's growing slowly, but it's still tiny, making it hard to be successful. Want in? Just add me on Facebook (Elana Katz) and I'll add you to it. I'm a good Facebook friend (and some would even say real life friend), I swear.

Bloggers and Sweaters

I don't think I can write enough about much I love the bloggers I've met in the short amount of time I've been doing this. Not only do the sweet comments I'm fortunate enough to receive make me happy, but I genuinely love the blogs of most of the women I've come in contact with. It will never cease to amaze me when a blogger I admire takes the time to read and comment on my blog. Katherine of Of Corgis & Cocktails is one of those bloggers, so when she recently decided to purge her closet and offer readers first dibs for basically free, I jumped at the chance to own this sweater. Of course, when I say "jumped at," I mean I was too incompetent to figure out how to enter the promo code in her shop and was convinced I wouldn't be able to get it, but a helpful email from Katherine solved my problem almost immediately. When the sweater came in last week, it was love at first sight. Not only did it fit perfectly, but I've been searching for more items with elbow pads for quite some time now. Everyone should get used to seeing this sweater now since I'm positive I'll be wearing it all the time once the weather allows it.

Ignoring the quality of my camera and the fact that I desperately need a haircut, aren't the locations of these photos great? I've been wanting to take pictures around this building for awhile, but I failed on Friday when it started pouring. Luckily, T.J. and I went back on Saturday before the hot air balloon rally, and it worked out even better since no one was around. We originally were just going to take pictures in front of that unique door, but the steps made it hard to get a good angle. T.J. did climb into a nearby tree at one point (his idea), but it didn't end up helping. I convinced him to let me take pictures of him in the tree, but he won't let me post them anywhere. Lame.

In other news, the weather has been wonderful lately. It's still pretty warm, but it's been cool enough to get away with sweaters and light jackets. Naturally, I'll be wearing one or other every day this week. Hope everyone is having a good (or bearable at least) Monday!
