Latte Cappa Thing

Oh yes, here I am wearing a silhouette that is NOT A-line. I can hardly believe it myself. But since I've been trying trends that I previously wasn't sure about lately, I figured that it was time that I - 

Okay, fine. I'm lying.

I did not purposely go out of my way to try a shape that was not in my comfort zone. Save your awards and applause for someone who deserves it. I bought this dress off of Poshmark and the seller's photos were cut off so I stupidly assumed that it was an A-line cut. If you saw these pictures, you would assume as much too! Or maybe it was just wishful thinking and not seller's fault at all. Either way, I chalked it up to my own inability to pay attention to listings and accepted the dress. 

That said, I did decide to try it anyway, so I guess I deserve some sort of praise? Right? Probably not, but I am pretty proud of myself for wearing it anyway, even if it still is pretty flattering and super tight as I had feared. Turns out, I like it! A lot, actually. I'm not a big fan of puffy sleeves (hence the cardigan), but the shape? You know, I think I can get behind it.

I also paired it with this new Larry David enamel pin that I scored from Bee & Mae, so that doesn't hurt either. I had been eyeing this pin for months, and I finally decided to just get it. I only watched through all of Curb Your Enthusiasm last year (before that I had just seen an episode here or there), but I obviously loved it enough to know that a Larry David is necessary. Bee & Mae must have the same exact taste in pop culture as I do because every single pin she makes is right up my alley. I may have also gotten the Bob's Burgers/X-Files one too. It's too good. Pulling it Off

I can hardly believe myself, but I am officially a hat girl. I have loved straw boater hats for years, but I've never been able to find one (let alone any hat at all) that I thought looked good on me. Lately, though, I've been trying this new thing where I wear whatever I like regardless of whether or not I believe I can "pull it off." That concept is entirely in my head, and I'm done being a slave to it. It's funny how growing up (if you can call being a couple months shy of 25 growing up) will do that to you. 

Ever since I decided to finally try wearing hats, I've been on the search. I immediately went to the queen of boater hats, Sammi, for suggestions. She gave me a few great places to start, but I've been hesitant to bite the bullet. Well, get this - I went into a Daiso (a Japanese dollar store if you're unfamiliar) and saw this one for $2. What a great way to finally try wearing one without actually committing, right? Turns out that it's actually perfect. It's a little bit small, which is strange considering my issue has always been that hats are too large on me, but I think it actually works. I'm still hoping to find a better quality one soon, but this dollar store one has definitely convinced me that I can, well, pull it off.

Mint Florals

And just like that, it's spring. I know that we don't exactly have real winter here in Southern California, but it was getting quite cold for my weak bones for a while there. Don't get me wrong, I so look forward to layering up each year, but I was ready to put my tights away. Luckily, I sold some stuff on Poshmark and used the earning to get this sweet Kling dress just in time for California spring to start. It has been in the 70s every day for the past week, and it looks like it's here to stay. I figured that the arrival of spring begged for an appropriate outfit, so I decided to go all out. We're talking a bright cardigan and a floral headband with an equally floral dress. Oh yeah, I went there.

This weekend was fairly uneventful, but relaxing. I baked some peanut butter cookies, saw Get Out with my brother and his fiance, and visited my other brother's family. I normally hate horror movies (I'm a giant wuss), but knowing that Jordan Peele was behind Get Out and seeing the stellar reviews convinced me to give it a chance. I can't say that I'll start watching horror movies now, but I am glad that I took a chance on this one since it was excellent. Highly recommend.

Red Skirt + Booties

It feels rather appropriate that the moment December started here in Orange County, it began to look like fall. Ah, well, I'll take it, I guess. This weekend was a busy and exciting one, but I can't believe that it's already over. After having dinner with my good friend Casey on Friday night, I went to Temecula on Saturday morning for a very special event — my brother's engagement! He and his girlfriend have been together for six years, and he's been planning his proposal for some time now. He gathered her family and ours at a winery under false pretenses that her mom had planned the whole get together. She was in complete shock when he popped the question, and I think it goes without saying that she said yes. I've known her since jr. high, and she's been a good friend of mine since before they started dating, so it's doubly exciting for me to get to welcome a good friend into the family. 

The rest of the weekend wasn't nearly as exciting, but enjoyable nonetheless. There was cake involved, not to mention breakfast with family and friends. We also saw Arrival in theaters last night, and it kind of blew my mind. I'm a fan of sci-fi in general, but this movie was far more beautiful than I ever had expected. I can't stop thinking about it.

Modcloth Collared Top + Red Skirt

I know this top probably looks like one I've owned for a while, but believe it or not, it's new. I surprisingly did not own a black sleeveless collared top, which I was happy to rectify. As luck would have it, I'm extremely weak, and when I received an email with a new promotional code from Modcloth, I couldn't resist. I'm bummed that I forgot to take a photo of the button down back, but it's so comfy and perfect. I'm mostly just excited to have another collar to wear my Femme de Bloom donut collar clips with. Who wouldn't be?

This weekend ended far too quickly as they all do. We went to our friends' place for a birthday part on Sunday, and I spent Saturday with my friend Whitney. Yesterday, though, involved getting up early and doing some heavy lifting. By that, I mean watching my friends as they did heavy lifting. We finally, finally got our couch and table from my brother, which means no more eating on the floor! Jon and I immediately went to target to get some throw pillows and blankets, so I'm one step closer to having the adorable apartment of my dreams. It already has been feeling like home, but now even more so. Now, I just need to get my gallery wall set up with all of my art prints and then we'll be set.

White Grid Crop Top + Red Skirt

Happy day after the 4th of July! My holiday was fairly uneventful, but nice nonetheless. Jon and I hung out at our friend Adam's all day, and other than some time eating burgers by the pool, it was a pretty typical day for us. By that, I mean that we watched a lot of Arrested Development and browsed Reddit. There were also a few dogs hanging out at the house, so it was pretty wonderful. The 4th isn't exactly my favorite holiday (outdoor activities aren't usually my thing), but it was nice. The entire weekend was pretty much spent having movie marathons with Jon, which is pretty much my dream weekend with my dream guy. I'll take being cozy and watching movies all weekend over actually doing things any day.

I did make him go outside a couple of time to take photos, but the times that were most convenient to go ended up being the worst lighting. These pictures aren't my favorite because of that, but I do really like this outfit. Before vegging on the couch, I wore this to go to breakfast with my mom and visit with my brother's family. This crop top is actually part of a matching set, and you can see how I wore the skirt in my post here. I've been searching everywhere for a skirt this color for longer than I'd like to admit, but when I recently sold something on Poshmark, I found that I had credit in my account from when I signed up that I completely forgotten about. I used it to get this dream of skirt, which I haggled to $10. It's perfection. Thank you, free Poshmark credit. I am eternally grateful.
