Guest Post: '60s Hairstyle with Sweets and Hearts

Hello! While I'm in Illinois, I'm lucky enough to have a few of my beautiful friends filling in for me. First up is my dear friend Erica, who I'm sure you've familiar with if you've been following along for a while. I've always referred to Erica as my "blogger friend," but that's really not true anymore. While we met through blogging a few years back, she's now my homegirl in real life. She is so much fun to hang out with, and I've wanted to steal her entire closet since I met her. I'm sure you all feel the same way. Keep reading to learn about how Erica and I found this seriously amazing dress.

Hey everyone! I'm Erica, occasional style/beauty blogger over at Sweets and Hearts. If you've been following Elana for a while, you might recognize me from the swap blog we were both a part of, Flock Together (aww, good times). We used to borrow each other's clothes. And I'm sure we'd still be into it if we weren't as lazy. Oops. Well, now we hang out IRL. Elana's off doing something SUPER FUN (lucky!), so it's pretty awesome that she's letting me take over for the day (thanks, Elana)! But anyway, it's been quite a while since I've done a proper outfit post, so I thought it would be nice to share the dress I bought the last time I hung out with her, which was at the Dapper Day Expo a few months ago. We...bought things. We were easily swayed. We were weak. There were too many pretty things. Can you blame us? We lingered a little too long at the Retrolicious booth and gave in a little too easily. We got a good deal though (really!) and I have no regrets (here's the lovely dress Elana ended up getting). I just couldn't resist the 60's hairstyle doodles (AND IT HAS POCKETS).

Elana's one of the funnest/funniest people I've met and her enthusiasm is extremely contagious. We both get excited over the same things--including shopping--so it's probably not a good idea to shop with us because we'll just enable you (but you're totally welcome to...we'll even take your outfit photos for you). Burbank

There's only two days left in this work week, but it's still not close enough to the weekend for me. Work has been good, mostly thanks to a seriously awesome group of coworkers, but doing customer service is unsurprisingly draining. I'm so fortunate to work for a great company, but getting yelled at by customers all day isn't exactly fun. While I wait for this weekend (which most likely will be full of relaxing and good friends), I'll just be daydreaming about what a wonderful day last Saturday was when these photos were taken. I spent the day with Erica of Sweets and Hearts, and it was the best. I absolutely adore Erica, and it's crazy how much we have in common and how easy it is to talk to her (especially considering that a majority of our friendship has been on the Internet). We met up in Burbank for brunch and thrifting, and we both had a pretty successful day of purchases. I've been doing a lot of thrifting for the first time in a while lately, and I'm so happy with what I've found. I've missed digging through boxes for $6 red satchels in perfect condition.

I recently got this dress with a pretty sweet discount from work, and it's wonderful. I wasn't too sure how it would work on me because of the peek-a-boo neckline, but a lace bandeau proved to be the perfect solution. The dress is a real beauty, if I do say so, which means it's going to be in heavy rotation from now on.

Leather Jacket

Despite the fact that I didn't do too much of anything that was Halloween-related, I still had a great Halloween week and weekend. I was mostly just excited to go to Disneyland the day before Halloween, especially since it had been a while since I had visited during this season. As I've mentioned before, my best friend, Whitney works at Disneyland, and her friend, Jessie, visited from Kansas last week. Jessie had never been to Disneyland before, so Whit got both of us in so I could tag along for her first visit. I will never outgrow that place or get tired of it, so any time I get to visit my second home is appreciated. It was the perfect day to go as it wasn't too crowded or too hot, and we were able to catch the Halloween decorations before they left. The lovely company didn't hurt either.

This is what I wore to see the movie "Birdman" last week with a bunch of my friends. I borrowed this dress from Erica, and like most Flock Together pieces, I don't want to give it back. This print is so unique, and it's incredibly light and airy. It paired almost too perfectly with my new leather jacket that I picked up at Buffalo Exchange. It's from Forever 21 originally, but it was only $14 (bought with store credit) and had the tags still on. I have a feeling you'll be seeing this beauty a lot. As for "Birdman," it was one of the best movies I've seen this year by far. The film was more imaginative and captivating than I ever could have imagined, and Michael Keaton and Edward Norton turned in career-changing performances. It's getting Oscar buzz, so I highly recommend checking it out once it's in wide release.

Mint Dreams

I don't know if you all knew this or not, but Erica and I are kind of closet twins. Or perhaps you prefer the term closet soul mates. Either way, we seem to have similar tastes as we keep finding out that we own the same items. Unfortunately for me, though, I don't own everything Erica does. It's a shame, really, because that means that I don't own this mint dress, which I borrowed from her through Flock Together. Dreamy is the best way I can think of to describe this dress. The color and the silhouette are gorgeous on their own, but the lace detail on the bust just makes it stunning.

This dress definitely deserves to be taken out to a special dinner with a pair of heels, but alas, nowhere fancy is in my future. Instead, I was pleased to see how easily it could be dressed down with a striped cardigan and some white loafers. It ended up making the cut for day three of my internship this week and then to celebrate two of my close friends, Jeremy and Kevin's, birthdays later that night. Jeremy's family cooked us burgers and we saw This is the End, which ended up being hilarious. I figured it would be pretty stupid, but it had me laughing the entire way through. Of course, I'm bound to love any movie that predominately features Freaks and Geeks paintings on the walls of the main set.
