Tiny touches of neon

Try to look serious, I dare you.

Taking photos with Elyse and my nephew, Jackson, causes a real challenge- trying not to laugh.

Considering I'm stuffed with delicious crepes my friend came over to make and cannot seem to move, a blog post feels like the most logical thing to do with myself. I wore this to see Brave last week, a movie I'm still not sure what to think about. In terms of a Disney princess movie, it was adorable and pretty much what I've come to expect from that type of film. As for a Pixar movie, however, I'm not quite sure it lived up to my standards.

If there's one trend I never envisioned myself wearing, it's neon, but here I am. After seeing small touches of it done with class in various corners of the internet, I decided to take the plunge. I picked up this belt in Wasteland on Melrose while I was there and I couldn't be happier with it. It's ended up being a great way to incorporate a little bit of neon in an outfit without going overboard. I'm holding off on that until my neon orange latex bodysuit comes in the mail... Who's gonna be the most stylish blogger then? THIS GUY.

As for the rest of the look, I picked up this top at T.J. Maxx with the dress I wore in my last post. It's a shame I keep insisting on tucking it into skirts like every other shirt I own, it has a really amazing scalloped hem. I'll force myself into some shorts at some point this summer and show it off. I probably wear this skirt once a week- it never stays in my closet for too long. I subscribe to the Shop it to Me emails, but the only time I've ever ordered something from it was when this skirt became marked down on Anthropologie from $178 to $19. I'm really great at pretending like I can afford anything from there.

Shirt: T.J. Maxx
Skirt: Anthropologie
Belt: Thrifted, Wasteland
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

  3. You have the cutest smile ever in that first picture. Also, I'm jealous you got crepes.

I hear you about Brave. It was a sweet and well told story, and very appreciated in that it was about female relationships. However it was... I felt from the trailers we were going to see a more epic story than what we got. The movie was actually a very intimate story with really only the princess and her two parents fleshed out at all. I was expecting Brave to be to female leads what Up was to Senior Citizen Leads. It wasn't but that's more my own expectations' fault...

    1. Oh thank you! Man, I wish I got crepes more often...

I 100% agree about Brave. The trailers completely misled me to believe it was going to be an epic adventure rather than a family drama. I almost feel bad picking at a kid's movie so much, but that exactly what it was. Pixar has a reputation for producing animated movies that appeal to adults, but this felt very targeted towards children, which isn't necessarily bad. I appreciate what they were trying to do with a female lead, but I was expecting more of an Arya Stark from Game of Thrones rather than a rebellious teenager acting out.

  4. ah, crepes... they can easily become my main food source.
i love the skirt, but anthropology is ridiculous with their prices. i manged to get a necklace and a silk shirt once, $20 each on sale, and haven't been able to get anything cheap since then. but those two pieces that i have, are really some of my favorite items in my closet.

  6. EEEEK!! I'm so glad I found a fellow cat lover (who's friends call them librarians!) from california! I currently work in a library and everyone says it's the perfect job for me since I *look* like one apparently! Are you from LA? I'm in OC! Love this whole pale blue / neon green peek going on!

    1. I think we were meant to be friends! I have two cats and all of my friends say I look like a librarian. I'm pretty jealous you actually get to work in a library, that seems like a very sweet gig. I'm in OC too! I'm from Anaheim Hills, where are you from? And thank you!

  10. This outfit is awesome! The skirt is amazing, and for anthro at $19, its extra amazing! I like a girl who can spot a great deal lol. I also really love the neon belt, I too have not jumped full on the neon trend, but really like it in little peaks here and there like you did with this belt.

I really like that your blog is a reflection of what you are studying! I wish that was the case for me! I studied Environmental Policy and work at an environmental consulting firm, so my blog is more just a way for me to stay creative (and more importantly, remain sane!)
Hope you had a lovely 4th!
