Little white dresses and personal style

Meet Emily:

For my VAMO meeting yesterday (the fashion club I'm president of), we told all of our members to wear something they felt represented their personal style for an ice breaker. The idea was to get into groups of people with similar style, label it, and talk about why we like to wear what we do and where we like to shop. It was essentially an excuse to get everyone to mingle and I probably enjoyed it more than most did. What I'm trying to get at is that this is what I decided to wear to represent my personal style and I think it did the job well. My friend Emily (pictured above) and I immediately grouped up and labeled ourselves as "vintage inspired" and talked about thrifting and Modcloth. I've been thinking more about how exactly I would define my style and I decided I'm somewhere between feminine+vintage inspired+classic. That works, right?

Speaking of Emily, I decided that I'm going to start including pictures of my photographers every so often so my readers can put a face to the name. I go to school with a lot of people who don't dress well, and Emily is one of the few people I know who actually has amazing style. She always throws the most interesting items together, yet somehow it looks effortless. Did I mention she's also the best photographer? As if that wasn't evident from the photos. It's always easy to tell when she takes my pictures because she always leaves me with a bunch to choose from and a variety of angles. Also, she's reading this so tell her how stylish she is. Go ahead, do it. It's possible that she'll be so flattered that she'll have to start her own blog.

I mentioned in my last post that I'd like to start a blogger's clothing swap group and a few of you expressed interest so I think I'm going to go ahead and do it. It'll be a completely private Facebook group that you have to be added into and everyone can put up photos or create tumblrs/blogs with photos of items they'd like to swap or sell. The only rule will be that if you swap for something, you have to wear it on your blog and link back to the blogger you received it from. If anyone is interested, go ahead and add me on Facebook (I'm under Elana Katz and shouldn't be hard to find) and I'll add you to it. If you can't find me, leave me a comment or send an email with your info and I'll find you. If you do join, it would be helpful to mention it in your own blog too to spread the word. I hope everyone actually wants to do this! As I've mentioned before, I've had some really good luck swapping clothes and it's a great way to clean out your closet and get new items for essentially free. And honestly, is there anything better than free clothes? Edit: Apparently for me to start the group, I need to already have people to add to it, so I can't start it until someone adds me!

    Such a fun idea to post photos of your photographers, I can't do that because 90% of the time my photographer is my tripod, ha ha

  6. I love this dress and the belt you put with it! Such a lovely combo. Also, the clothing swap is such a good idea! I would totally be up for it! And lastly, (in response to your comment on my blog) I will do outfit posts...eventually. First I need to find a photographer. And time. And the ability to not look awkward while being photographed. And THEN I will do outfit posts. :)

  17. First of all, let me just say how adorable you always look in all of your outfits, Elana! I have stated this before and I won't take it back, I wish I could raid your closet, you have such amazing clothing! :) I personally LOVE this outfit to death, you look so cute! :) Your dress is lovely, I love the cut and the back details are so beautiful! Your cardigan is something that I would usually consider simple (maybe because I usually consider cardigans as basics) but it looks absolutely wonderful when paired with that dress, plus the details of the belt and ring are lovely! For a final perfect touch, I love your bag and how it matches your brogues so beautifully :) wonderfull outfit to say it all!
    It is wonderful you have a fashion group, it might be wonderful to share the passion for dressing up :) Emily shoulde definitely start her own blog as well, I love her outfit, it's so preppy and cute! If she doesn't want to start a blog, please be sure to force her to appear on yours, I'd love to take a peak at the fashion of who's behind the secenes ;)

  18. What an utterly adorable look! I consider LWD to be just as a staple as LBD. I really love the cardigan and the oxfords--they give the look a very classic touch, but the gold hardwear belt and that beyond awesome cat ring (I'm such a cat lady) really polishes it up! Love your outfit, from head to toe. :)

  21. I love your necklaces and that belt, and the sweet cardigan. Now that I teach on a college campus, I have to agree, not many people seem to dress up on campus anymore. Glad to see you and Emily bringing some beauty to campus!

  22. Most people on my campus wore sweatshirts and jeans - you're completely right in saying no one really likes to dress up. You both have such a lovely style and quite a knack for accessorizing. That white dress is perfect! I love blogger clothing swaps - I've done one before and it was so much fun. Going to try and find you on FB - my username is Marisa Bongiorno DiSalvatore) xo Marisa

  23. You can tell you really spend the time to make your outfits perfect--I don't have that much patience ;) I'm not in college anymore, but it DEF seems like people aren't as polished as they were when I was in school a few years ago. Good job bringing more fashion to the masses! xoxo {av}
