Part Two

I don't know how I ended up here, but I'm going heading into my third to last week at home until summer break is over and college takes hold of my life once more. A year ago, I couldn't stop complaining about how summer was far too long and school couldn't come quickly enough. This time around, things are bittersweet. I'm incredibly excited to be heading back to my life in Illinois shortly, especially since the newspaper is like my drug that I get withdrawals from when I'm away, but I've had a great summer at home and I'm not quite ready for it to end. For as much as I've created a life at school that I love, I always get too comfortable at home when I'm here. I've gotten used to seeing my best friends all the time, seeing my parents every day, living in a house with a real kitchen, and just being in the place I grew up in general. That's not even to mention the comfort of being in California. It's funny how eager I was to get away three years ago; I've gotten such an appreciation for this place ever since leaving. What I'm really trying to get at is, I just don't understand why I can't clone myself so I can be in two places at once. I'd settle for a transportation device too. I'm not greedy.

As for clothing and other relevant things to this blog (just kidding. Everything I have to say is relevant because I said so), this is what I wore for part two of my birthday celebration last week when I went out to dinner with my family. Both my mom and sister-in-law complained about how even this tiny wedge made them feel short. However, at 5'2", I think I'm allowed a very tiny bit of height every so often. I'm also allowed a velvet skirt, but I think we're all allowed that from time to time. Okay, all the time.

Side note: why is working at a restaurant so exhausting? I've been doing it off and on since I was 14, but I don't think I'll ever get over that feeling of wanting to punch someone while it's busy and wanting to collapse and die when the day's over. Anyone else who's worked a restaurant can relate, I'm sure.

  1. Those shoes are amazing! Sorry work has been exhausting! I think generally any face-to-face customer service type jobs are really rough. I worked retail for years and was always so drained at the end of the day. Hang in there!

  2. Love your velvet skirt! So pretty! Ah, summer vacation! It's always too long when you're in the thick of it, but too short when the semester is right around the corner! lol

  5. Such a sweet look for a birthday celebration!! Those wedge sandals are really darling, love the velvet skirt too. I put mine away for the summer but this makes me want to dig it out!
I can imagine you miss being home then when you're home you miss your "new" home. Both have different things to offer and mean different things to you!

  7. Haha, oh man, that last paragraph...TOTALLY AGREE! So many times I just want to hit someone while at work. Ugh. Serving the public can seriously be exhausting.
Anyway, love your second part of your birthday outfit! A girl is definitely allowed a little bit of height every now and then ;)

  8. I LOVE those wedges. Rock them all you want girl! I'm 5'5 and sometimes I feel too tall in heels...so I know what you mean.
You looked so darling for your birthday! I love wearing velvet, it is so soft and I would just end up awkwardly petting my legs all night long, haha.

  10. I love this top and your shoes. These shoes are probably one of my favorite things you own. Are we the same shoe size? And where did the summer go? I have so much I need to do and yet, July is almost over. Ugh, growing up.

  14. Oh, I know exactly what you mean about wanting to be at home and in school at the same time! It's the conundrum of the college student, I think. You look fab as always, I love that ring!

  16. Love those heels! And I always feel a woman can and should put on a heel! (of course, The Boy is quite tall, so it never looks odd in that regard, so...)

So glad you had a good birthday celebration. Enjoy the rest of summer.
