Thank Goodness for Goodwill

Recently, I realized that I've accidentally been wearing much more "fast fashion" than usual. Blame the sales, but somehow my outfits have consisted of a lot more Forever 21 and H&M items than I'd like. I'm a sucker for a good deal, so even though I try to refrain from shopping much at those places, I still end up with too many items from them. It's because of that reason that I was feeling pretty good about myself when I realized that I had put on an almost entirely thrifted outfit on Friday. Of course, there's still a Forever 21 necklace and H&M booties, but that's beside the point. (Side note: As someone who flies back and forth between California and Illinois every couple of months, I can't help but be head over heels for this airplane necklace.)

I wore this for another coffee date with Katie and Lexi last week, and I love that it's becoming a weekly thing for us. Katie and I have become pros at taking photos together (we use my camera and her lens), and it's so much fun to have Lexi take pictures with us too. Speaking of thrifting, a Goodwill opened up our town on Monday, which is probably the most exciting thing to happen here in ages. We had to check it out the day it opened, and we were all happy to find that it did not disappoint. I definitely came home with a few things for only a few bucks each. Thank goodness for Goodwill. (Title drop, anyone?)

Also, I tried wearing socks with my booties for the first time in this outfit. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about them, but I ended up really liking the result. Who knows? Maybe you'll be seeing this more often. I certainly wear these boots enough to mix it up every so often. (This how exciting my life is right now. I actually put a lot of thought into whether or not I should wear socks with my boots. I really wish I had documented my struggle with that decision. It's sad.)

Shirt, cardigan, skirt: Thrifted
Necklace: Forever 21
Boots: H&M
Bracelet: Brandy Melville

  3. I love a Goodwill shopping spree - and it definitely offsets my occasional anxieties about the levels of F21 in my closet as well. Also, I really love your top and that necklace is super cute and very appropriate for a frequent flier.

  5. It's been so long since I've been to goodwill, I just don't have the time anymore :( Thrifting is definitely a time consuming endevour, I don't even really have time to get to the mall so anything new I have has come from online. Which isn't much better I suppose!!
I absolutely love the polka dot blouse and that blue shade on you. It's so awesome you have friends that you have weekly coffee dates with and will take your pictures, that sounds like such a good time!!

  6. Thank goodness for Goodwill indeed! I admit I'm a sucker for fast fashion as well but I really am trying to break out of that habit. I admire anyone who has the patience to sift through everything at thrift stores and find great pieces like you!
Love the blouse and the color of that cardigan!

  7. Love those polka dots and that airplane necklace! Fast fashion is a tricky one. I certainly buy things here and there, but even when I'm shopping in stores like Forever 21 I try to choose things I can see myself wearing for quite a while. I tend to like to look at clothes as investment pieces more than like things to wear for a couple of months and get rid of. But boy, it's hard to resist those cheap price tags!!!

  8. You know, I don't think I've ever been to a Goodwill! Sad, I know. There used to be a thrift store right down the road from me, but sadly it had to close. Gotta find a new one! Cute outfit!! Tiny polka dots are the best!

  11. I couldn't agree more: Thank goodness for Goodwill! One opened up in my town a few years ago, and then another in the town over this year and it's always so exciting. I love going every couple of weeks just to see what kinds of treasures I can find.

I agree about feeling weird when you're wearing a lot of Forever 21 or H&M, but I also try to just not care. If you like it, then wear it, right? :) I always feel weird when my whole outfit comes from one place and I never notice until I'm writing the post and putting in the caption of my outfit details. It makes me feel a little like a walking billboard! haha. By the way.... socks and booties? Don't question it because you look great! :)

  15. I haven't gone thrifting in forever. I want to look for pieces that not everyone has from H&M or F21.

By the way, that blue color looks really good on you!

  16. Thank goodness for thrift stores in general, right? Haha, they keep our wardrobes unique!
Love that airplane necklace too, the travel theme in general is just awesome.
Also, socks with boots is something I want to try as well, I need to expand my sock selection first though. I'd love some burgundy colored ones!

  20. I agree--thank goodness for Goodwill! I don't know where my closet (or my wallet...!) would be without it! And goodness, I'm such a sucker for sale prices too. :P I end up buying far too many things I hardly ever wear. But I am getting a bit better with that. Love this outfit! It's too cute!
