Let's Get to Work

The snow lately has not been kind to this blog or blogs like it. Not only has it been impossible to justify standing out in negative temperatures with snow blowing every which way for outfit photos, but it's also been hard to have any sort of inspiration when it comes to getting dressed. No matter what I wear, it'll be covered by a scarf and giant coat for most of the day, and it all still needs to provide some level of warmth and comfort. Plus, it's not like I'll ever know when I'll be taking outfit photos. It seems like the days I have the opportunities to are the days I hate my outfits, and the days I like what I'm wearing are when photos are out of the question.

Basically — and I'm sure many of you are in the same position as I am — winter is bad for bloggers.

With that, I apologize if posts are scarce these days and for my very un-inspired outfits you may see. Please, rest assured, it won't be like this forever. I'm trying to come up with more types of posts I can use, and this indoor shoot at my desk at work was another great idea from Mary. It's not my favorite outfit, nor is it my most creative, but it was functional for the day. Plus, you can get a small peak at what my life at work* is like, cluttered at desk at all. You can also see my wall of inside jokes behind me that I like to call art. Bonus points to anyone who noticed the "House of Turds" print-out behind me in the first picture, which my advisor left on my desk during the government shut-down. My office is the best.

While it's not my favorite outfit, I can say that I'm pretty obsessed with this dog belt that Born Pretty sent me. It falls off kind of easily, but it's worth it. I'll be damned if that's not the cutest belt you've ever seen.

Before I wrap this up, I'd really love some input from my readers and/or tips from bloggers also suffering from the curse of winter. What are some kinds of posts you'd like to see when I can't get outfit photos? Personal stuff, anything entertainment-related, more posts about up-and-coming designers or shops that I love? Anything new? I can use all of the help I can get. I'm struggling over here.

Sweater: Nordstrom Rack
Striped top: Forever 21
Pleated skirt: Romwe
Boots: Cathy Jean
Belt, midi rings: c/o Born Pretty

(*I ramble about this often, but if you're by any chance a new reader, I'm the editor-in-chief of my college's newspaper.)

  1. Aww you're so cute in your element!! Love the chunky knit, perfect for the snowy, chilly weather. It's nice that you have a space in doors where you can do this. I could take photos at school but I'm in fitness so that would be kind of weird/I'd be sweaty haha.

  2. I like the in-her-element feeling of these photos and I like the outfit too. Who can say no to stripes? Plus, it allows the detail of the belt to stand out.

  3. aww, I love this. It's really cool to see you in your "natural environment" if you will, since it's obviously an important place that you spend a lot of time in! And girl, I feel you. I haven't been feeling inspired to get dressed/take pictures at alllll. As for post ideas: I would love to see more about you, and especially fashion wise. I love to see your outfits, but I'm curious to what your most loved pieces are, your favorite outfit formulas, what you wear when you're in a rush, your "staple" pieces, etc. That kinda stuff is always so interested & helpful to me. But forealz, if you posted just Breaking Bad quotes I'd still read along :)

  6. I've been loving seeing these peeks into your everyday life! I'm blown away by how motivated, on top of shit, and busy you are as a college student. I really wish I would've had some of that back in my day... ;) I think these posts you've been doing are really fun. It's also cool when you spotlight shops and blogs- it's a fun way to learn about new people! Stay warm, lady!!

  7. That belt is so cute! I haven't had to deal with such awful weather, so the outfit posts have been ok for me, but boy do I miss the long days of summer. Being able to work on projects and have good lighting to do so until like, 8pm made life so much easier. Now if I'm not done by 4 at the latest, it just ain't gonna happen! Come back soon, summer!

  8. Haha, House of Turds...nice! :P
I have to agree, that dog belt is just freaking adorable!
Ugh, and I know, I'm feeling lazy when it comes to going out to get photos done. I'm relying heavily on some pre-photographed outfits and haven't been getting any new ones :/

  9. You're so cute at your editor desk! I miss my college newspaper days - late nights reading everyone's articles and making sure photos and layouts made sense and looked right. Ah. Great times lol I love your doggy belt!

  10. Winter is the worst. I tried to take outfit pictures and I had tears running down my face, snot coming out of my nose, and my hands were about to fall off.

  11. You are so cute! I love these pictures of you at work. Such a cozy and cute outfit too. I love that dog belt. I don't blame you for taking pictures inside. Illinois is cold!

  12. I was just thinking about how horrible winter is for blogging. It's dark when I leave for work in the morning and it's dark when I get out of work in the afternoon. Plus, it's cold, rainy, windy, all around gross for picture taking. I can't wait to have longer, nicer days for spring and summer!
