The Thanks I Get

In all honesty, I'm in denial that today is December 1st. With finishing school, working a part-time job while I look for something more stable, and being back in California during the fall for the first time since 2009, I've kind of just felt like I've been on eternal summer break subconsciously. It's definitely strange not being in school for the first time, well, ever, and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the concept that I didn't have a Thanksgiving break this year. Despite the adjustment, I'm so excited for the holiday season. I had a great (and busy) Thanksgiving week, which was filled with the usual family and friends as you might expect. I was especially happy that my brother, Lucas, ended up coming into town at the last minute. He goes to grad school in Arizona, and he didn't figure out that he'd be able to come home until a few days before Thanksgiving. He came home on Wednesday afternoon, and I dragged him to LA to see a stand-up show with my friends on Wednesday night. We saw The Meltdown, which is a weekly show at the Nerdmelt Showroom hosted by Kumail Nanjiani and Jonah Ray, two of my favorite comedians. The pair have a handful of comedians perform short sets for an intimate crowd every week, and it's said to be a favorite among comedians and was actually turned into a Comedy Central show over the summer. I've been wanting to go for a while, so when they gave away all tickets for free last week to celebrate Thanksgiving, I immediately snatched some up. We saw Maria Bamford, Anthony Jeselnick, Rhea Butcher, and a few others, and it was a ton of fun. We were a little disappointed since Paul Scheer was supposed to perform but ended up not being being able to make it, but it was a great show nonetheless.

Did I accidentally digress from talking about a holiday to ramble on about a comedy show? Typical. Really, though, my family had a really nice Thanksgiving. We ended up decorating the tree the next morning before Lucas had to drive back to Arizona, and we did a little bit of Black Friday shopping at Target. In case you're wondering, I definitely did not walk out of Target with only a couple of movies for myself and no Christmas shopping done. I repeat, I did not justify buying something for myself with the argument that it would be crazy to pass up $4 movies. I would never do that.

By the way, I wear my glasses pretty often (especially to work), but somehow I always end up wearing my contacts in blog photos. I was pretty lazy yesterday, so I decided to give my contacts a break. The rest of the outfit needs to no explanation other than the fact that I love how easy and simple it was.

  4. Glad to hear you had a great Thanksgiving!
I'm kind of in denial as well, but I'm also quite irritated that radio stations were playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving. Why?? Ugh... too soon.
Your outfit is adorable, as always. I really like your cardigan and that bird bag! So cute!

  11. I completely relate to that eternal summer break feeling and the weirdness of being home during the fall. I finished grad school in May and am doing part time work while looking for a grown-up job so I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm happy the holidays are here though! And I hope the new year brings a new job.

Also you look very cute here in your glasses! I really love the cozy-looking cardigan here too. Your vintage shoes are adorable too!
