Army green and summer scarves

After years of searching for the perfect army-esque jacket, I finally found the one. It wasn't in an overpriced boutique, a trendy online shop, nor did I stumble across it by chance in a thrift store. Instead, it came to me in the form of a sweet girl's swap page, looking to swap for a shirt of mine. It was the first item of hers that interested me, but I hesitated at first. It was a size smaller than I normally wear and didn't want to risk. In the end I decided that if I was receiving it for free (the shirt I swapped was one I hadn't worn in a long time and was collecting dust), I had nothing to lose. Alas, my worrying for nothing. It finally arrived on Friday and it exceeded all expectations. Lightweight and fitted enough to not overwhelm me, but structured enough to give the masculine feel I had hoped for. I always love the contrast between masculine and feminine pieces, so I knew immediately I wanted to throw it over an airy dress, of which I have no lack of.

Another reason I felt so happy in this outfit yesterday was the accessories. I had completely forgot I had this scarf and pulled it out while I was searching for a different one to try. I'm definitely not stuffing it back in my closet this time. Then there's the shoes. Too many things have gotten in the way of taking outfit pictures in these shoes. Usually I end up wearing them on days I don't have time to take pictures, but a little over a week ago, tragedy struck. I wore them to go to a flea market, one located in an open field. The flea market took place the day after a big storm. There was no avoiding the mud. By the time we left (not long after we had arrived due to more rain and my sickness), they were covered in the stuff. I fought the tears and hoped they stood a chance of being cleaned. Outside my door they sat for a week, untouched. I found it difficult to find the time to clean them, but I mostly was afraid of the disappointment. Two days ago, I grabbed a roll of paper towels and wouldn't stop scrubbing until they were clean. Much to my excitement, most of the mud came off. They still aren't perfect (I didn't take a photo of the sides), but they're wearable, which is all that matters. Never again will I risk ruining an item in my closet again.

Also notable about this post: T.J. in front of the camera for once. He fought it at first, but I was so impressed with his sweater/button down combo that I wouldn't take no for an answer. I wish you all could have heard me shouting, "all of my readers want to see you! You'll never meet any of them!" as he tried to hide his face. As usual (though he'd disagree), I won in the end.

Oh, in response to a couple of the comments in my last post: I did not place those newspapers on the ground (I'm not that creative), though that is the paper I write for and while I agree it's impressive that T.J. climbed a tree for a better shot, I have to admit that it was mostly due to his inner child's love of climbing trees. In reality, he would have taken any excuse to get up there. I, on the other hand, can't say I'm quite as adventurous. I'm also never in the right clothes or shoes.

By the way, I know I've talked the swap group on Facebook I'm in a lot, so I was wondering: Is anyone else interested in swapping clothes? I can add anyone to that group if they'd like. I had another idea though, would anyone be interested in creating a blogger-specific swap group?

  2. awww, they don't look bad at all! i wouldn't guess they ran through a muddy field. and i HATE when that happens- when you have to sacrifice and put on ugly shoes so your nice ones don't get ruined. i hate feeling "meh" about my look. and that's such an awesome swap! that jacket suits you very well. and mixing polka dots with floral is one of my favorites :)

  4. What is your swap group on facebook. I'm sort of interested in possibly swapping, but then don't know much about it (beyond the basic concept, of course).

You look cute and so does your man :)

  8. Oooh, I am loving this perfect-for-fall outfit. The mix of polka dot and floral is so subtle, which I like. So glad the jacket worked out for you - a big reason I shy away from too much online shopping is not knowing if an item will fit right.
Haha, and way to finally capture TJ! You two are just soo CUTE! :)

  16. The army jacket is perfect! I have on that I actually got at a thrift store, and I wear it way too much! It looks terrific with your accessories, especially the scarf, and you know how I feel about those shoes! I debate them every time I am on modcloth, and then hesitate, and then they sell out haha. So glad they cleaned up so nicely!

  19. Amount of shoes I have messed up by traipsing through mud or grass: SO MANY! I'm really glad you were able to save them because they are adorable. Also adorable, TJ! I laughed when I raed this because Hunter and I have had similar conversations before, but he's been a pretty good sport about my blog as of late :) he is one stylin' man too! Not that I would expect anything less from you! Army jackets are everywhere and I'm not sure how I would wear one, but I think you look great! It's a perfect blend of rough and girly, love that pretty dress. Also, yes, I'm down to swap! I've never done that before! I'm nervous! I'm gonna throw up! I'll add you on the book.

  20. That army jacket is PUUUUURFFEEECCT. and so is that scarf. And one of my favorite things about you is how energetic and cute and happy and just HUMAN you look. (I hate those bloggers who look all mysterious and don't smile and look like they hate life). So you're perfect. Anyways, I'm glad your boyfriend let u take pictures!!! We need to see boy style more often and after you told me about how supportive he is, he's seem perfect for you. (This is my third(?) time using perfect on here hah)
