Black Lace

Well, look what we have here; I finally had time to take outfit pictures! It's a miracle, really. Between school, work, and the rain over the weekend, I was beginning to think I'd never have an outfit post on here again. Thankfully, I'm having a slow day today, so Jenn and I were able to sneak in some time after our features writing class to take these. Sure, I may be behind on writing two stories for that class, but that's besides the point. (If anyone is accusing me of being a bad student right now, I should mention that the professor is my advisor for the paper and is okay with me turning them in late. See, folks? Just get a job with your professors and you can guarantee a passing grade in all your classes! Tune in next week for more life lessons from Elana.)

Other than getting by in classes, my life has been all about internship hunting lately. It's the most frustrating process, really. The deadlines for half of the ones that interest me was two months ago, the other half haven't even posted summer internship listings yet. So, keep your fingers crossed for me that someone wants to hire me. And if any of you have connections with fashion or journalism companies based out of Orange County or L.A., feel free to put in a good word for me. Please and thank you.

I bought this dress over the summer with the intentions of wearing it with heels to a rehearsal dinner for a wedding I was in, but when it turned out to be a more casual affair, I decided to save it for a special occasion. One never came, so I finally decided it was time to dress it down with some boots and colored tights. I was hoping to get some detail shots, especially of the cool shoulders, but my camera decided to run out of battery right when were about to do so. That seems to be a reoccurring problem with me. Hope everyone is surviving Monday!

  1. I hate when I get a dress for a special occasion then don't get to wear it and never end up wearing it!! SO annoying.
This dress is lovely, it looks great with the coloured tights :)

  7. Oh, you had me at lace. :) I am always, always a fan of a great lace dress and I love the simple lines of yours, it's so elegant and understate. And with that said, I think it's awesome how you managed to tough up the dress with those killer moto boots and the tights! (I think the tights are patterned, I keep squinting, thinking I see a pattern.) It's really a cool look, I need to try something like this with my lace dresses.
That's awful about the internships, I hope something does come along that's awesome for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

  9. I saw this lovely black and teal combo on instagram yesterday and kind of just fell in love. Such a perfect way to brighten up these dreary February days.

Also, good luck with internship hunting! And I applaud you for doing it while you're still in school - for some unknown reason I didn't even look for internships until I graduated and realized how important they are. I hope get one that you love for the summer!

  12. So pretty miss Elana! I love that you dressed down the dress like this, it looks so cool with the boots, but fun with a pop of blue. Ugh, internships-such a scary venture because you never know what's going to come your way. I hope you find one that is just perfect for you, but I'm sure it's tough waiting in limbo right now! If you're as talented as you seem you should have no trouble! Have a blessed day, girl :)

  13. I love the sleeves on this dress! And again, I'm so jealous of your home/school locations! I'm sure you'll find one that's perfect! I'm struggling because there's nothing in Ohio that's remotely cool. Anyways, I really like this dress and those tights and those heads still freak me out.
