Mint Velvet

There's really not much to say about this outfit other than it was an easy winter throw on for a day when I didn't get much sleep (wait, that could be any day) and it wasn't negative degrees. Out came the fleece-lined leggings, the comfy sweater, and the velvet skirt. It's not my favorite outfit ever, and I can't say it's very memorable, but it got the job done. Side note: I'm convinced that fleece-lined tights were a gift from some high power sent directly to me to make my like infinitely better.

I wore this yesterday for my Wednesday classes, which starts with a 9 a.m. sociology class (which is hard to get through when your coffee is cold from the walk there) and ends with a 4 p.m. pre-internship class. I'm technically supposed to complete an internship for credit to graduate, but mine was scheduled for after May (I'll still be able to walk in the ceremony) rather than in between my junior and senior years. Because I've already done a couple of internships without getting credit — not mention I can't do another summer working for free — I'm hoping to just find a real big girl job that will fill out the internship paperwork for me, which my professor said I can do. It's pretty early, but I'm already starting to apply for any sort of fashion or journalism job I can find. As usual, this is the part where I grovel and ask all of my readers if they know anyone in either industry (or entertainment journalism) who wants to help a girl out. Also as usual, I have no shame.

I wish I had more interesting things to say, but I've mostly just been keeping busy with school (which, in case you were wondering, did end up getting canceled on Monday) and work. We did hold a mixer for potential writers yesterday, and I turned out way better than I ever could have expected. Our two assistant news editors, who are still endearingly optimistic and not cynical like those of us who have been there a while, planned the event, and they did an incredible job. I never expect anyone to show up to those things, so I was pleasantly surprised when we got a great turnout of mostly eager students looking to join our staff. I do realize that no one really cares about this other than my friends from the paper who are reading this (hi, Jenn and Mary) and maybe my mom (hi, Mom), but oh, well.

My thoughts are even more all over the place than normal today, but I should also mention this lovely infinity ring that the folks over at Onecklace sent me. This is my second piece from them, and I'm still extremely happy with the quality of their jewelry. This ring is a tad bit big for my finger, but I love the simplicity of it. I can already tell I'll get plenty of wear out of it.

P.S. My favorite flavor of ice cream is mint chocolate chip, and my favorite flavor of cake is red velvet. Thus, Mint Velvet was born. Best post title ever.

  1. Fleece lined leggings and tights are most definitely a gift from god, I live in them all winter long. I don't know if I could survive winter here otherwise. Love the textures in this look, that knit sweater is gorgeous with the velvet skirt!! Sounds like you're incredibly busy and I totally sympathize, school is essentially my life right now

  2. I really like this. The boots and velvet make this seem like an unexpected combo, and I love that the more rocker bottom half of the outfit is juxtaposed to the more preppy collar under a sweater top half.

Okay, you've done multiple internships. Why can't they just count! I've no doubt you will find an awesome job, but good luck in the hunt; it can be incredibly stressful I know.

  6. I need to take a page out of your winter styling book because when it gets cold outside and I'm late for work, I just throw on whatever looks warmest. You, however, manage to look so cute1 That mint shirt looks amazing under the sweater!
Good luck in the job hunt!

  7. Hey, no shame in groveling! You'll get to the top soon enough, then you'll be having people come groveling to you (don't forget me Elana!) ;)
Haha, anyway, love the velvet texture of your circle skirt.

  8. Grovel away! That's what grown-ups call "networking" haha - This outfit is too cute, I love it! And even if school seems boring, just reading your posts about it make me miss college SO MUCH. Enjoy every, sometimes mundane, minute of it!

  12. The colors are so pretty together and now I want ice cream, but it's freezing out so that totally doesn't make sense.

  14. I love the velvet skirt and it pairs well with those bad ass boots. I like how the mint on top softens it up a bit. I'm really excited to see where your path leads after school finishes- I wish I had a job lead for you, but alas I'm still trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing :) I can definitely tell you will be successful at whatever it ends up being!

  15. You're so cute in your pastel top and cozy sweater. Aren't internships and credit and all that crap a pain? I definitely can't do another unpaid internship after this semester, so I know what you mean. It's time for making some money! I hope you find a grown-up job soon!

  16. Cute look for just being thrown on. Oh yes not easy to find a job these days. But it is good you did some internships, it is sad but there are certain parts of the industry that are not using interns anymore and that is how I found my job.
