Minimal Effort

Have we all reached the point in summer where trying just sounds exhausting, or is that just me? It's not that I'm unhappy with my outfits or anything (in fact, I quite like this one), but I can't pretend like I've been putting any real sort of creativity into them. It's hot, my room is a scattered with piles of clothes I'm too lazy to hang up, and all I want to do is just throw on something sleeveless and a pair of sandals. So at this point, I'm just grabbing the first dress I can find in hopes that I haven't worn it on the blog in the past week or two, throwing a skirt on over it if I feel like it, and slipping on a pair of sandals or flats. If it works, it works. One of these days I'll finally sell all of the clothes I need to get rid of and I'll buy more things I'm not tired of, but for now, an easy summer ensemble like this gets the job done. This skirt has turned out to be one of my favorite pieces, and I honestly didn't think I'd get as much wear out of it as I have when I thrifted it this past spring. It works perfectly with these peach braided Modcloth sandals, which have become the star of my wardrobe this summer. Understandably, of course.

Things have kind of slowed down that past few days, which I'm happy about. The past couple of days have just included a quick trip to Venice to meet with my boss, working on my internship and various projects, skyping with my friend Aaron, and spending some time with sister-in-law in nephew. I feel pretty strange right now because school is starting up, and I'm seeing posts on social media and getting texts from my friends who have yet to graduate. It's weird not going back to Illinois for the first time in four years, and it's especially weird seeing the newspaper that I worked for go on without me. It's pretty bitter sweet, so I'm trying to look on the bright side and enjoy California life to avoid being sad. I also just remind myself that I never have to do homework or take a test again. See? Bright side.

I really need to get another pop culture post up since I've watched/listened to so much since the last one. It's really just been a bunch of podcasts for some reason, but I obviously need to ramble about them for a while in hopes that someone will care. Let's hope that I'll make that happen next week.

  1. Summer has made me lazy too! I am all the time looking for things I haven't worn on the blog yet but still look nice. I have plenty of clothes so that is not really a problem. I think I am just anxious to change seasons. It's so hot! I had never thought of pairing a skirt over a dress though. It's really quite a good idea!

  2. The summer is definitely for easy outfits! I love skirts like this that you can wear with so much and it's fun to have a pair of sandals that will add a color burst to any outfit. That first back to school season after graduating is so bittersweet! But I'm sure you'll be extra happy in Cali come Jan/Feb :)

  3. Oh, I'm totally with you on the laziness this summer. I feel like summer is just go, go, go and eventually ,it takes a toll. Also, it's so easy to put together lazy outfits in the summer and look good.

I love this skirt on you!

  5. This is one of my favorite outfit posts of yours doll! I love this skirt and the striped top goes perfectly with it. I am sick of picking out clothes too... right now I've been going to cut offs and a plain sloucy tee for this Austin Summer heat. I can't wait for Winter (I say that because we have no Fall). Lol.

  6. Not taking tests is priceless, priceless I tell you! I hated University, so I don't quite understand your pain from graduating, but I'm sure life has great things coming your way! ^_^
Can't believe this skirt is thrifted, it's so chic! Adore the ring too *_*

  7. I'm right there with you girl. It's hard to feel inspired all the time and it's so freakin' hot. Like who cares. You did a great remix with this dress and I am over the moon jealous listening to your adventures. Looking forward to your next pop culture post. Holla when you want to finish the one we started!

  8. The neckline on that top is so sweet, and I love the length of your pleated skirt so much! I hope you do get around to doing another pop culture post, because I love them! (:

  9. For someone who says they don't try with outfits, you somehow always look adorable! Now that I'm done with work, I just want to wear tanks and shorts everyday. I'm actually really excited to wear shorts and dresses too short for work while I can enjoy the California Sun.

I thought it was weird not going to back to school too but when I think about the tests and homework, I don't miss it one bit!

  11. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. I've been feeling a lot more inspired with autumn on the horizon and putting more effort into my outfits. Of course, I momentarily regret it when I go out and sweat buckets.

For minimal effort, you sure do look adorable! That skirt is such a great shade of grey and pairs so well with the peach sandals. I love those two colors together.
