Stuck Indoors

Not to talk about the weather again, but in case you somehow haven't heard, the Midwest has been hit with yet another cold front. According to my weather savvy friend, we're supposed to get wind chills as low as -40 and -60 between today and tomorrow. I don't think it would surprise anyone if I said that I've never imagined, let alone experienced, anything that cold in my life. As of when I'm writing this (it's 12:05 a.m. on Monday), my campus is probably the only one in the state of Illinois that has yet to cancel classes. Both the high school and community college in our town have closed their doors, yet my university still claims to be holding classes. I'm hoping that by the time this post publishes and you're reading this, I'll still be in bed because my school will have closed. Fingers crossed.

I'm telling you all of this because it's very likely that there will be very few outfit posts from me this week. I'll still be posting other things (especially since I'm hoping to have free time with no classes), but standing out in below zero temperatures to take photos is just not something my weak west coast blood can handle. Fortunately, I still have this outfit from Sunday to hold you over. While it wasn't all that cold yesterday (since living in the Midwest has taught me that 48 degrees is not cold), it still got dark early, and Mary convinced me that we could get away with taking pictures inside the classroom behind our office. I was a little bit skeptical at first, but I'm happy with the result. I don't know why I haven't learned to trust Mary when it comes to photography. She obviously knows best.

This outfit is pretty typical of me, but I wanted to figure out a new way to wear this fruit print dress. It's probably one of my most worn pieces, but it's somehow only made it onto the blog once. It's a problem.

Assuming I don't have class, I'll be job searching, catching up on blogs, and braving the cold for a few seconds to head over to my friend's apartment for some movies. If you're also confined to indoors today, what are you up to?

Dress (worn as skirt): Modcloth (similar here and here)
Crochet top: Threadsence (similar)

  2. I like the idea of putting the crochet top over the dress to remix it. Stay warm and preferably inside because I don't think I can even comprehend how cold -40 or -60 would be. p.s. that cardi is a great colour!

  5. Ohhhhhh I love this outfit!!! This is amazing, the lacey crop top is so perfect with the dress and that sweater. And these indoor photos are lovely.
I can't help but be amused when everything closes in the states at that temp, but here it's just business as usual. We have probably a week or two of that kind of cold every year so I can definitely sympathize because it is AWFUL, like truly the worst weather ever

  9. I am stuck indoors today too! I just put on all my gym clothes and headed to my car, only to slip and slide and almost fall multiple times on the ice. I decided its not worth going out there on the roads (plus, any excuse ever not to go to the gym!) I love this fruit dress worn as a skirt too, I don't layer shirts over dresses nearly enough! STay warm!

  12. Excuse my french, but holy shit! -60 degrees?????
    I would die.
That's all I can say about it. Haha, my weak West coast blood would shrivel up in my veins and my heart would stop. Lol us silly Cali girls...
Anyway, hope you got your classes canceled and was able to enjoy a day in!
If I had spare time, I'd just be enjoying the snuggly feeling of having a hot drink, flipping through some books I've been meaning to read, and watching TV.

  15. I've had to get creative with my pictures lately, too. Here in KY, everything's closed today, as our high was 4.... 4!!! Swear I'll be in shorts 2 days from now, when it hits 35. The Midwest is ludicrous.

  18. I love the way you styled this dress! Also, call my crazy, but I'm a leeeeetle bit jealous of all that snow. We haven't had a single snow day here this year. Yea, we had a snow morning, but that was all gone by 10am!

  20. That top is the perfect layering piece- I love the look with this dress. And cute print alert- love the subtleness of the design. HOLY COLD! I don't even know how to understand that and I'm still in the camp of 48º is cold. Pleasantly cold if the sun is shining, but cold nonetheless. I wish you all the best with this...

  21. I'm gonna go ahead and be a weenie and say I haven't taken pictures outside, and it is much warmer here (though still cold!) Taking outfit pictures in a classroom is a super cute idea though, especially since this is probably a "what you'd wear to class" outfit. Amiright?!
