Mix-Up

Wednesday was a good outfit day  and a good day in general. Sure, spring hasn't been too reliable so far, but the moment I looked outside on Wednesday, I knew I could bare leg it (it's a verb now). I've been feeling the need to bust out the blazer/polka dot skirt combo ever since Nicole from Writes Like a Girl's flawless post, and while I don't look nearly as awesome as she does, it's still a no-fail combination. I decided to actually do some print mixing for once and paired it with stripes. I think I need to start print mixing more often because I always like the results. Classic and slightly playful? I think yes.

If there's one thing that's the most frustrating about moving in a month, it's that my friends and family here in Illinois have gotten particularly good at playing the "You know, you aren't going to get to spend time with us anymore soon" card a little too often. It partially bothers me because it works every time, but it's mostly because I started using that on all of them first, and they've gotten much better at it than me. I'm already getting so emotional about leaving, that it's pretty much possibly to guilt me into doing anything these days. That's how I ended up out to dinner and at a bar for an open mic on a Wednesday night instead of doing homework and having my regularly scheduled Netflix date. I'm not going to get any sleep at all for the next month, am I?

That time I actually wore heels

I love dressing up, but I rarely have an excuse to. So, naturally, I made one up. In an attempt to make our last dinner together a memorable one, two of my friends and I decided to try a new restaurant and dress up for the occasion. I met Alena and Jessica my sophomore year of high school and we quickly dubbed ourselves (since the immediate response to making new friends when you're 15 or 16 is to give your group a name) the "fashion friends" because we were the only people we had met in high school who shared the same appreciation for fashion, or at least who shared good taste. They remain two of the best dressed people I know and two of the only ones who understand my five page long texts about fashion week twice a year. Jessica goes to school in the area, but Alena and I are both out-of-state so this was our last chance to hang out before we leave. On an unrelated note, they're both dead to me now that Jessica got a Balenciaga wallet for her birthday and Alena got....a PS1 bag. I cannot contain my anger.

Now that I'm done writing a hate love letter to my friends, let me get to this outfit. Oh, this outfit. I know I've said this about a lot of things (and will again in the future), but this is my new favorite outfit. Not only is this dress perfection (despite being a size too small, which I just ignore), but I actually found a pair of heels that I like and can safely walk in. Maybe it doesn't count since they're wedges, but I'm saying I own heels that I can walk in regardless.

For any of my Orange County readers, we ate at The Crosby in downtown Santa Ana and I highly recommend it. Not only was the restaurant incredibly hip, the food was spectacular. I have found my heaven in their fries. Plus, they have a drink called the Marsellus Wallace. If I wasn't such a lame college student who didn't drink (or, you know, if I was a year older) I would've ordered it just for the Pulp Fiction reference.

You're tearing me apart

Is is fall yet? It can't come soon enough because I want to wear this jacket with everything. Instead, I'll continue to wear it as often as it's bearable, despite the fact that it's far too hot outside.

I wore this yesterday to only go to Best Buy for my iPhone, but I pretty much wore the exact same outfit (with a different white dress) the night before. Saturday night I went to Hollywood with my friends Whitney and Adam, where we ate at an adorable bakery/cafe (my mouth is watering just thinking about the chicken pot pie that was served in a mug and the nutella macaroon I had for dessert) and attended a midnight screening of The Room. I mentioned this before, but The Room is my favorite "movie so bad it's good" and this was the first time I was able to go to a midnight screening of it. For anyone who's gone to a Rocky Horror screening, it's pretty similar...except instead of people dressing in drag and fishnets, they throw plastic spoons at the screen and toss plush footballs around. It was awesome. Bonus points to anyone who laughed at the title of this post.

Don't mind the fact that my mom and I didn't realize there was spot on her lens when we were taking these photos. We did it on purpose. You know, for artistic value.

Thanks again to everyone reading, I'll never stop being pleasantly surprised by the fact that people take the time to read this. I hope everyone is having a fantastic start to their week. On an unrelated note, anyone who sends me iPhone recommendations (places to buy cases or accessories, apps to get, etc.) will forever be awesome.
