Almost a Rainy Day

Don't you love those outfits that end up working much better than you planned? I wore this last week for what I thought was going to be a rainy day. I was just going to two classes and work, and I didn't think I'd be able to take pictures, so I didn't really put that much thought into the outfit. However, when it ended up clearing up by the time I got into work and Mary asked if I wanted to take photos, I realized that I liked it much more than I realized. Then again, with lace, pleats, and a gray cardigan (which I've been wearing to death lately), I shouldn't really be that surprised.

I got a little spoiled with a three-day weekend, and now it's a bit harder to think about waking up for class. My school gave us Friday off for "fall break" (I still don't understand why, but I'm not complaining), and I had a great weekend. It felt even longer since we don't put out the newspaper on days that there's no class, so I didn't even have work Thursday night. I actually ended up going to a bar Thursday night with some friends (most of my good friends work at the paper with me), which usually isn't my scene. I'm really not a bar person at all — I even had a lengthy discussion with one of my friends about being a coffee shop person as opposed to a bar person – but I ended up having a really good time. It helped that we went to the most laid-back one in town, as opposed to the other club-like college bars.

As for the rest of the weekend, I spent most of it with good friends. Friday was at two of my friends' apartment eating too much junk food, fitting in that much-needed short coffee shop trip with Mary and Jenn, and playing Mario Party. I spent Saturday taking two of my guy friends on their first thrifting trip, which was quite the experience. And by that, I mean it was the shortest thrifting trip I've ever been on. It was kind of weird not going with girls who try on a million things and stand in front of mirror for too long, trying to decide if something is worthy of buying (guilty). Luckily, we made up for the time by visiting a comic book store and a used movie and video game shop. What can I say? Thrifting and nerdy boys are pretty much my favorite things.

  2. What a sweet and pretty outfit! I also have moments where I put together a cute outfit and only later realize it may be blog-worthy. It's such a good feeling :]
I'm also more of a coffee shop than a bar person, though I'm okay with sports bars - they tend to be more relaxed.

I'm not sure if I'm a coffee shop person or a bar person- I think I'm more a home person!

  6. Hahah, never heard of a fall break :D Guess it's better than nothing :D
Guys and thrifting don't go so well :D Although I do have one guy friend who loves it, while all of my girlfriends hate shopping, go figure! Guess women and men stereotypes are starting to break through :D
And the outfit is indeed awesome. Love the cozy cardi ^_^

  7. There is literally nothing I don't love about this outfit. I just thought to myself "Please god let these clothes fall into my lap"....sadly, my wish wasn't granted. Looks like I'll be scouring the thrift stores around town for a grey speckled cardigan myself!

  8. Aw, these photos are stunning! You gals found a great spot where the light is just beautifully hitting the leaves behind you. The cardi is so cozy looking and looks fantastic with a little lace blouse underneath, I love it. I was/am so much more a coffeeshop gal than a bar gal too! I don't think I went to one bar in college, unless you count a sports bar once for lunch, haha. It definitely is a different atmosphere than a warm, inviting coffeeshop :)

  10. 1) I love that you took two boys on their first thrifting trips. Did they enjoy it? Or get what they were looking for?

This is a lovely outfit on you. Very ladylike.

  11. I'm always a little disappointed when I am hoping for rain and it doesn't come! However, it would probably really throw me off my picture taking schedule if it did, so perhaps I should be grateful- haha! Love this whole look- so cute on you! And that ring is perfect! Alex

  15. Fall break, what?! That sounds wonderful! It is totally harder coming back to school/ work after a three day weekend though! I am loving this cozy wrap cardigan, going to keep my eyes out for a similar one now! Hope you're having a good Monday so far!

  16. I just came off of a luxurious two-day "fall break" as well and I need to get back on a regular sleep schedule. One thing that I love about breaks is that you get to spend more time getting to know your college friends, instead of just frantically studying together. I love your lace top btw; I thought it was one color until I got the close-up!

  22. Don't you just love 3 day weekends? I had last Friday off unexpectedly so I ended up with a 3 day-er too- the best. That sweater is so cute and looks cozy- I wouldn't want to take it off either. Your effortless outfits look so put together!

  26. I'm in love with your dress. And your boots. I need some good tall black boots because just having black combat boots is not going to cut it this winter.

As for being a coffee shop person over a bar person...I am SOOO with you. I hate the bars here, but I have only been to the big ones. But, we should definitely get coffee soon! :)
