It's a Lie

I'll be honest; looking at these photos, this isn't exactly my favorite outfit. It's not the worst though, and I think it's good to show an outfit here and there that I wore, even if I can't rave about it. I wore this to work yesterday, and I think my biggest problem is that I'd like it much more without the tights. Unfortunately, despite the fact that it looked warm outside, the sunshine was a lie. It was not in fact a nice spring day as I had hoped, but actually pretty chilly. Or maybe I just don't like how this jacket ended up looking with this dress. Either way, hey, here's an okay outfit that I wore yesterday.

I had a decent, if not uneventful weekend, in case you were wondering. I spent Friday afternoon "interviewing" the new editor-in-chief (my friend/our photo editor was the only one who applied, so he got it by default, but he's more than qualified), which was a weird experience. I'm really happy for him and I know he'll do a fantastic job, but I'm still not ready to hand the job over soon. That night, we all went out and celebrated with him at our favorite bar, and it was a great time. I ended up spending most of Saturday with my brother, sister-in-law, and their kids, and decided to stay in and watch "Veronica Mars" at night. Is my life exciting or what? I'm not sure why I feel the need to recount my weekends, but I have nothing better to do, clearly.

Fare Thee Well

Well, apparently this is my first outfit post of 2014. I think I've told myself every day this week that I would take outfit photos, but somehow it just hasn't happened. It's really just because I'm lazy in the mornings and don't actually get in the shower until noon, and then I'm busy doing something with friends until it gets too dark to take photos. I'm pretty bummed that I haven't been able to make much time for blogging, but I guess that means that I actually have a life/friends who are willing to spend time with me, so at least that's something. As for the outfit though, something about it feels a little different for me, but I love it. I've been looking for a new utility jacket for a while now, and my good friend Alena bought this one for me as a Christmas present while we were out shopping. I love it that it's slightly more unique than most of the other ones I see due to the multiple shades of green. Plus, this cropped sweater is kind of the best.

Enough about my clothes though (what is this? A fashion blog?), I want to talk about entertainment. I've been spending most of time seeing movies, and they've dominated most of my conversations as well. Last week, I saw American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street, both of which I enjoyed (More so American Hustle, though). This week, however, my friends and I went to a theater a little out of the way that shows limited release movies, where I saw possibly my two favorite films of the year (since they both technically came out in 2013) — Inside Llewyn Davis and Her. I'm a big fan of the directors of each (the Coen brothers and Spike Jonze, respectively), and both were like breaths of fresh air after what felt like a lackluster year of movies. I can't stop listening to the soundtrack from Inside Llewyn Davis, and Her just blew me away. I can't recommend either of them enough.

While I'm on the subject of entertainment, I should also mention the important matter of Community returning last night with Dan Harmon finally at the helm again. My life is complete again.

Chilly

Don't be fooled by that smile on my face; it was positively freezing when I took these photos. Yes, that's snow on the ground you see, and yes, that's me in a skirt and no coat. Though it's since all melted, it did snow one day last week, something I was not prepared for. Even going on my fourth year living in the Midwest, I'm not sure my California-bred self will ever get fully used to the idea of winter. Sure, I've become a bit more adjusted to it than my friends and family back on the west coast are, but I'm still a wimp. I guess if there's one thing I should be used to by now, though, is that the Midwest has the most inconsistent weather. My first winter here (in 2010) there was a record-breaking blizzard that shut down my campus for two days. Then, the following year, there was barely any snow at all. Last year was probably a good mix between the two. It wasn't a terrible winter, but there was still snow on the ground until maybe a week or two before I went back home in May. I'm not really sure what this winter is going to be like, but I'm sure I'll still tough it out and stand in the freezing cold with no jacket while someone takes my picture. The things we do for blogging.

As for the outfit, this another one that I ended up liking much more than I thought I would. I wasn't too excited about taking pictures in this one, but it grew on me. It's nothing too special, but a good showcase of my style (girly, yet practical?). The one thing I'm excited to show off, though, is this arrow ring that Loopsway sent me. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of dainty jewelry, and I'm always looking for more rings to add to my collection. This one adorable and a great piece to throw on every day, which I'm pretty sure I've done since I got it.
